The Mason Study Club held its first 2020-2021 meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd, at the Heart of Art Winery. Following the Covid virus guidelines, the members gathered on the outdoor patio and were able to social distance plus wearing masks. To date, everyone is well! New officers for the year were installed by Jan McCann.
Please join us this Sunday, October 25th for a drive-thru hamburger lunch on the square benefiting Steady Steps Children’s Weekday Ministry. We’ll be set up on the west side of the courthouse from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. You’ll receive a delicious hamburger, chips, drink, and dessert, all packaged up in a convenient to-go container.
We have known for a while now that eventually we would have to make some changes at the Recycle Center. The recycle market has been bad for a few years and continues to decline. Unfortunately many of the items that we take in at the Recycle Center have no market value.
Mason Frontera will have a FREE drive through Flu Event on Thursday, October 22nd from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. They have 100 flu vaccines available! First come, first serve basis for anyone one year of age or older that has had a previous flu vaccine. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the clinic at 325-347-5926.
Two members of the Mason FFA Chapter have been recently elected to the Bluebonnet District FFA Officer Team for the 2020-2021 School Year. The election process involves testing, interviews, writing prompts, and speeches. Due to Covid, this year’s elections were conducted this month as opposed to the annual spring elections.
Sarge is an attention seeking dog who we have learned has a separation anxiety challenge. He loves his people so much that he is super afraid of being left. This is treatable with patience, trust and time. Second Chance has had other dogs with this tendency, they have all become wonderful pets.

Why Does the Llano Uplift Have So Many Bucks in Velvet?
I have received several queries from readers who asked about “velvet bucks”—also known as “cactus bucks” or (incorrectly) as “stag bucks.” These are all names that people sometimes use to refer to bucks that don’t shed the velvet on their antlers in the fall. Such bucks are found occasionally throughout the range of Whitetail Deer, but they occur at a relatively high frequency in the Llano Uplift area in Mason and Llano counties.
