The American Legion Post 352 officers conducted a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, Monday, June 14, at the ESD 2 Fire Station. Members from BSA Scout Troop 497, Cub Scout Pack 497 and Girl Scout Troop 2104 participated in the ceremony.
After issues--some of which remain unresolved--arose with Kinder Morgan’s Permian Highway Pipeline, folks have wondered if there will be other pipelines running through the Blanco County in the years ahead. “Whether or not another pipeline comes through Blanco County is anyone’s guess,” said Blanco County Judge Brett Bray. “Other county judges tell me about the many pipelines crisscrossing their jurisdictions and that pipeline projects happen all the time.
The Blanco City Council tabled a work order for the wastewater treatment plant at a special called meeting Monday morning. Citizens Ann Ahrens and Ray Don Tilley asked the council to delay action on the item until the city’s water task force can look closer at the issue. Crowds flocked to Blanco as the Lavender Festival returned for its 16th year last weekend. After taking last year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival returned in full bloom in 2021. Vendors of all kinds lined the historic square near the Old Blanco County Courthouse while large crowds visited the various tents and booths filled with lavender-themed goods and homemade wares of all kinds. The Blanco County News was honored with two awards from the Texas Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest, it was announced Saturday at the organization’s annual meeting in Denton. Blanco County News took fourth place among all weekly newspapers in the state in the “Online Live Coverage” category. BCN’s entry in the category was for first day of school photos posted throughout the day.
During the month of May we had a teddy bear naming contest for the beautiful bear made and donated by Martha and Matt Herden. The name was selected last week and the winner received a $20 gift certificate to Main St. Donuts & Kolaches. Congratulations to Rachelle Willgren for submitting the winning name. Results of the 2021 District 10 4-H Spring Roundup competitions were released recently, with 28 Blanco County 4-H members placing. In the Junior Share-the-Fun Musical/Instrumental category, Liberty Lemanski placed first playing Budapesto on cello and Autumn Vitallero placed second playing The First Noel on guitar. In the Intermediate Share-the-Fun Musical/Instrumental category, Willow Lemanski placed third playing Huber’s Concertino on violin. In the Junior Solo/Band category, Wyatt All ...
Members of the Blanco baseball team received multiple post-season awards including all-district and all-state academic honors. The Panthers finished the 2021 season with a 25-6 overall record. Senior Baylor Smith was named Co-MVP of District 25-3A for his outstanding play at third base and outstanding hitting. Smith hit .352 on the season with nine singles, four doubles, three triples and three home runs.
A large group of students attended the Blanco basketball camp.
The BHS senior and junior classes battle in the Powder Puff football game Thursday, May 27. The junior team wore pink and the seniors wore blue. The teams were coached by classmates. Both teams scored touchdowns. And no matter who scored more touchdowns, the seniors won. The seniors always win.

Clifton Eugene Tyler was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Nov. 16, 1933, the youngest of six. He died April 15, 2021. He attended LSU in Baton Rouge and was also proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps as a young man. In later years, he was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church. Clifton was preceded in death by his siblings Ronald, Charles (Buddy), Mary Jane, Maphine and Jimmy Mills, as well as his loving wife of over 45 years, Alice Jean Dotson. Survivors include da ...
Gary Blake Savage Sr. went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2021. He was born in Pearsall on July 27, 1948. He passed at his home in Blanco, surrounded by his wife and family. Gary grew up and attended school in Natalia, where he worked in the grocery business with his family.
Gerald Bruce Hostetler (Jerry), 88, enjoyed his evening meal, said goodnight, got into bed, and closed his eyes for the last time on Monday, May 31, 2021. Jerry was a kind, loving, and patient father, grandfather, husband, and friend. Jerry was also caring, loyal, understanding and committed to his family. He never hesitated to roll up his sleeves and pitch in to help a friend or neighbor in need.
Laura Lindeman Caza was born on March 21, 1939, to Alton and Lorene Lindeman at their family ranch in Blanco. She went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 12, 2021. Her life was devoted to her family and her faith. Laura was raised in Blanco where she lived with her parents, two sisters and twin brothers.
