The bands played, people danced, enjoyed vendors, food and more at the Raise the Roof fundraiser for Twin Sisters Dance Hall over the weekend. The two-day event featured a barbecue and chili cook-off, live music, dancing, vendors, a dominoes tournament and more. There was even activities for the children, such as a petting zoo, art contest and more.
The Blanco County Commissioners breezed through its light agenda in approximately 15 minutes Tuesday morning.
The commissioners approved an agreement to borrow $541,942 from Government Capital Corporation to purchase equipment and various services. The agreement sets the interest rate at 2.897 percent, and payments of $280,677.17 will be made in June 2022 and June 2023.

Organizers of the Wild Game Dinner are looking forward to serving a delicious variety of game to a large crowd this Saturday, Oct. 2nd, at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City.
A few items of this year’s fare will be fried Axis, wild game chili, whole roasted hog, fresh homemade sausage, fried shrimp, catfish, pork cutlets, brisket, gumbo, jambalaya, along with bacon wrapped quail.
CLFRF
The city’s request for assistance for award of the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CLFRF) has been approved. Our city administrator worked hard on this grant for us and it paid off!
The city was awarded $256,582.35 and will be receiving roughly $250,000 more later. The council has not decided on how the funds will be spent yet.
The Blanco High School Panther Band marched in their first competition of the season at the Hill Country Marching Festival at Fredericksburg High School Saturday, Sept. 25. The band performed their show entitled Ritual. The music is based on The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, and is arranged for marching band by Randall Standridge.
The students involved in the Blanco High School Theater Department have been working hard to make ready their production of “Mamma Mia!” with scheduled performances the first two weekends in November.
The motto “The show must go on” certainly applied this year as the obstacles have not been few. After all COVID-19 precautions were met, the cast and crew spent part of their summer break learning and practicing music and choreography for another play.
The Blanco varsity football team scored 20 second quarter points to take a strong win against the Three Rivers Bulldogs last Friday.
The Panthers improved to 2-3 on the season after Friday’s win, while Three Rivers fell to 3-2 after the loss.
It was a tough start for Blanco after the home team fumbled on its first possession at its own 37-yard line.
The Blanco volleyball team started District 25-3A play Friday, Sept. 24 with a match against the Lago Vista Lady Vikings. The Lady Panthers secured a 3-0 shutout win with set scores 25-19, 25-19, 25-21. Blanco improves to 21-6 overall and 1-0 in district.
Emilee LaRue led the way with 13 kills and two aces, and also chipped in with 10 digs.
Kylene Kramer led the Blanco cross country teams Sept. 22 at Wimberley.
Kramer finished 15th with a time of 13:24. Evelyn Trammell took 21st in 13:38, while Sidney Johnson finished 29th in 14:07.
Sebastian Galvan finished 26th for the Blanco boys, while Hayden Dotson finished 27th.

Charles Wesley “Wes” Waugh, age 69, “Seadog” to the many that knew and loved him left us to be with our Lord following a sudden illness on Sept. 24, 2021.
He was born Nov. 23, 1951 in Espanola, New Mexico on the Indian Reservation. Wes was a proud Vietnam veteran and Navy man.
Curtis Wayne Bindseil, 34, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021 at Guadalupe Regional Hospital in Seguin, surrounded by family.
He was born in Fredericksburg on Sept. 29, 1986 to Curtis and Sharon Bindseil Sr. He was baptized May 3, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco. He grew up on the family farm in Floresville, Texas and is a 2005 graduate of Floresville High School.
He loved to be outdoors working with his animals, spending time with his sons, friends, and family, and ranching.
