Peaches are in season May-September in the Texas Hill Country. Freestone varieties are quite popular starting in the middle of June, usually around the Jamboree. Most fruit stands offer peaches already picked along with fresh produce, ice cream, pies, and preserves locally made with family recipes.

The first weekend of April is booked solid in Llano with the 16th Annual Chuck Wagon Cook-Off and the 43rd Llano Fiddle Festival. On Friday morning, April 3, students from Llano Elementary, Packsaddle, and Llano Christian Academy will make their yearly trip to Badu Park to learn about life in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The Old County Annex Barn sat waiting for a new purpose. This year work began on the barn to turn it into a Vendor’s Market. There are 22 booths. Nine have been filled and seven new vendors open in March and April.

“If you’re gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band.” Safe to say that nine times out of ten, that fiddle player probably came from Llano. Llano has a fiddle history as long as the Llano river and twice as deep.
Originating in the “old country,” front porch fiddle playing was a common form of evening entertainment in the Texas Hill Country, a family tradition passed on from father to son that begat many famous fiddlers.
