MARBLE FALLS — Everybody loves a parade, or a bunch of two-car parades like the ones in the 8th Annual Adult Soap Box Derby Classic in downtown Marble Falls, June 16-18.
But the Derby had a pretty good “opening act” — which measured eight feet. Diagonal measurement, that is. A pizza.
Jake Gilligan and Rey Gonzalez, two young men from San Antonio, brought the dough, cheese, sauce, and toppings, and, oh, yes, a two-ton cooker, to make the biggest pizza most of us will ever eat — or see.

The Llano 4-H Meats Judging Team is headed back to nationals.
The Llano squad won state 4-H in meats judging at the state round up held earlier this month in College Station. The win put Llano into the national competition to be held in Manhattan, Kan., this fall.
“It was a tough year,” said coach Joe Dan Tarter of Llano’s razor-thin edge in the standings.

CEDAR PARK—This is the time of the year in college football for forecasts and discussions: Will there be a five-hour game? Why is it just a Final Four, not 64? Who’s in—who’s out of Music City Bowl consideration? And, which coaches will be removed from the hot seat and their office?
Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin will avoid, understandably, to publicly worry about Door Number Four, but he may be under a “number-of-wins-or-else” demand.

MASON — “Same Time, Last Year,” Alexus Cotton and Kayleigh Kirkland knew they were going to play basketball but probably didn’t envision a somewhat quick promotion to the Llano High varsity. Did awfully well: first team,
All-District for then-sophomore Kirkland, and second team member, then-freshman Cotton.
Here we are in mid-June, and the two are the leaders of the Lady Jackets.

Dear Editor,
A lot of people have not got the news that I think is important to all of us protein consumers. In March of this year, Brazilian investigators uncovered Brazilian meatpackers selling and delivering spoiled and rotten meat, adding cardboard and A acid to mask the product.
One of the Brazilian meatpackers is the United States’ number two beef meatpacker, known as JBS.
