Thursday night was a farewell and a new welcome to a Llano business on the corner of Main Street and Ford Street. Michael Virdell and his wife Kay have sold Main Street Affairs after five years to Brittany Baker and her husband, Chuck. After a brief closure next week, the Wine Bar will reopen as The Barrel House, offering Texas wines and craft beers, along with a section of California wines.
The Christmas Lighting Committee met last Thursday, to discuss the plans for the Rock’N Riverfest. They discussed the barbeque cookoff. The prizes will be 80% pay back; that is, 80% of the money collected from the cookoff entry fees will be split between the top three winners. A reminder to the kids that want to go into the “Kid’s Rides” area that they will need to purchase a $10 wrist band and keep it on all day.
Art on Display All Over Llano Saturday afternoon, a June day that wasn’t too hot for a change, an event was unfolding that brought people to Llano from all over Central Texas. Over 30 artists were set up in 19 different locations downtown and one set up across the bridge at Robinson's Antiques & Custom Wood Works.

Grace Episcopal Church in Llano is proud to announce the Ordination of Kendrah Hagar McDonald to the diaconate of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas on Thursday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. Having just recently graduated this past May 16 from the Virginia Theological Seminary with a Master’s in Divinity, Kendrah will be consecrated a deacon by the Right Reverend Jennifer Brooke-Davidson, Suffragan Bishop of West Texas.
This Friday is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year, and the Llano Chamber of Commerce is hosting Get Fit For Llano for the second year. We are joining with people across the world who will participate in a fundraising activity on The Longest Day.
On Monday, May 10, the Commissioners addressed the regulations governing animal control in Llano County. Commissioner Linda Raschke and Matt Rienstra have spent approximately one and a half years making sure that it meets current standards and is in clear language. The terminology is now clearly explained. The list of the Schedule of Fees is also included for the first time.
Llano City Council held a workshop on Monday, June 10, the topic being utility rates. Mayor Gail Lang started off by saying, “I don’t want us to go off willy-nilly and lower rates this month and raise them again next month.” Mayor Pro-Tem, Sammy Leverett, agreed with the mayor and stated that the Council needs to, “Agree on how we want to structure it before we start.” This will give them direction on what they want to accomplish.
On Monday, June 10, Main Street Advisory Board announced that Main Street Affairs has been bought by Chuck and Brittany Baker. They will open on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. as “The Barrel House.” The shop is in the process of obtaining their full liquor license. The Barrel House will be featured in a later edition of The Llano News. The board welcomed their new member Alecia Williams.
Bulls 12 – Cowboys 0 It all began in 1919, and except for war years and a flood, it has been around for 84 years, the first full weekend in June. On Thursday night, beginning at 6:30, slack was run with nearly 200 performances of tie down roping, breakaway roping, team roping and barrel racing.
