This weekend begins the fall event time, with a host of activities being planned by our members. Many are involved in the monthly Artwalk that will begin at 1:00 p.m. and go until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28. Check out the Llano Artwalk Facebook page for all the details.
With day after day of near and over 100-degree weather, it’s hard to envision that fall is just around the corner. Texas doesn’t seem to ease into fall, like most areas. One day it’s 100 degrees, the next day a cold front comes through and drops the temps down for a few days, and, just like that, fall is here.
On Wednesday, August 7, Judge Beatrice (Bebe) Rocha, Llano County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, appeared before the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and gave testimony, alleging that she used her position in office to advance her private interests. The judge identified herself as a local justice of the peace during a personal phone call in mid-January.
The Hill Country Community Theatre is casting the second show of their 2019-20 season, the comedy, “A Twisted Christmas Carol”, written Phil Olson. Auditions are Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the theatre, 4003 W FM 2147, Cottonwood Shores. Sides from the script will be provided at the audition for cold readings.
On Thursday, September 12, Commissioner Peter Jones opened the Llano County Pct. 1 Townhall meeting by commenting on the year to date with significant effort by the county directed to recovery from the October 2018 flood.
Total cost to the county to recover from the flood is about $2 million.
The Federal Disaster Declaration does make Llano County eligible for reimbursement from FEMA.
Riding on a motorcycle offers views that are impossible to capture when you are inside an enclosed vehicle. There’s something about there not being a thin glass window between you and the road that changes the way you see the world.
Llano County offers some of the most beautiful views in the Texas Hill Country and on the weekend of September 14, those views were shared with the Ladies in Leather all-female motorcycle group.
The Kuykendall Event Center was abuzz again. Our lady bikers were back in town, now going by the name Ladies in Leather. Many who attended were here last year, but there was also a lot of new faces.
On Saturday around noon, the Ladies in Leather Parade commenced from Llano High, through the Courthouse Square, then to the JLK Event Center & Arena, where the rally was being held.
Elections are coming and Llano County has new equipment. That combination scares some people. It is natural to wonder, “How different is the equipment?” or “Will I be able to understand how to use it?” There are some differences with the new equipment compared to the equipment we have used in Llano for the past 15+ years.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, Director of Community Development, Tony Guidroz, announced that the Llano Community Theatre has been relocated to their new home at the Lantex. Their first play, “The Marvelous Wonderettes”, will be presented on October 11. He also informed the Council that admission and popcorn prices at the Lantex will experience a $1 increase beginning October 4.
Junk in the Trunk is coming to Llano on Saturday, September 28.
On Friday, September 13, Llano and Packsaddle Elementary held a Color Run. The Dauber Dome served as the Start and Finish Line. Kindergarten through second grade ran one mile. Third through fifth grade could run or walk two miles. Parents were able to purchase a wristband to participate. “The color run was a great event that all of our students enjoyed,” said Llano Elementary Assistant Principal, Kimberly Stubblefield.
