Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported sending over $557 million in sales tax remittances to Texas cities in May, up 8.39 percent over the amounts sent to cities in May 2017. Year to date sales tax allocations to cities are up 6.94 percent over 2017. Two local municipalities soared above the statewide sales tax average increase for the month compared to last year, three cities showed increased collections near to or below the statewide average, and Cottonwood Shores posted a 16.46 percent d ...
The Llano ISD Board of Trustees met in a special meeting at 12:30 p.m. last Friday. The first order of business was to canvass and declare results of the recent regular school board trustee election. All the ballots from the absentee voting, early election and election day have been counted, and the board approved the results. Rob Wilson ran in Place 1.
The 2017-18 spelling bee winners at Llano Christian Academy are as follows: Kindergarten - Salena Oestreich; First Grade - Whitman Leverett; Second Grade - Brady Palermo; Third Grade - Gunner Todd; Fourth Grade - McKya Jones; and Fifth Grade - Madi Chaney and Zane Todd.
George Birck was named the 2018 Cowboy of the Year on Saturday at the Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association’s annual banquet. Birck was born July 11, 1939 to Christian and Lydia Birck at home in Round Mountain. George grew up helping out around the home.  As a small kid his chores where to milk the cow, gather the eggs and chop kindling for the wood stove that was cooked on and to heat water up for their baths in a number 3 wash tub.

Ron Cunningham is certainly the man to beat in Llano County electoral politics in 2018. Cunningham completed a rare feat as he won his second electoral race of the year on Saturday, returning to the Llano ISD board of trustees in Place 5 with a win over challenger Dean Campbell. Cunningham won 298 to 262.
Many decades ago, people were concerned about how to meet their responsibilities in helping unfortunate children. Dedicated Christians in Abilene expressed an interest in a home for these children. It was pioneers like B.A. Hays, J.E. Epperson, Hilly Walker, and others who made the dream come true. In the mid-1950s, it became apparent that there were few provisions for assistance to the Mexican-American child.
The City of Llano received a clean audit for Fiscal Year 2017. Keith Neffendorff, of the firm Neffendorff & Knopp, PC, told councilors at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting that it was a “good, clean” audit of the city’s fiscal position. A local screenwriter got her screen time last weekend.
