One by one, American flags were carefully lowered into the flaming pit to be properly disposed on Thursday morning.
The tattered, torn and worn flags were given their respectful end during a brief retirement ceremony held on Flag Day behind Highland Lakes United Methodist Church in Buchanan Dam.
Jenny Tucker, the church’s pastor, said it was the second consecutive year that the church has hosted the event.

The Llano County Commissioners heard an update on the VETRIDE program during Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
Sophie McCoy, VETRIDE program manager, told commissioners the program is up to using seven vans. The multi-county program, based in Burnet, has provided 100 additional rides from Llano County in the last 12 months than it did the previous year.

Harvey Klee of Llano County was awarded the “Best Tai Chi Instructor Training Provider 2018” in the U.S. by United Kingdom-based LUX magazine.
