No doubt when the young men from Llano County who traveled to Camp Terry near Austin in April, 1862 to enlist as soldiers in the 17th Texas Infantry, Co. E, under Captain Seth Mabry, the boys felt engagements in skirmishes and battles would soon follow once their training period was completed.

They call our region Flash Flood Alley for a reason.
Water here can rise quickly and cut off escape routes, tear homes from foundations, and rip up even the sturdiest of trees and send them barreling downstream.
Lake Travis rose more than 50 feet in a day during a 1952 flash flood, and just last year Central Texas experienced deadly flooding on Memorial Day, then again over Halloween.
We don’t see those kinds of floods often, but when we do, the damage can be ca ...
My crack research department, Pat, has sent me several stories lately that would each make pretty good columns, if I were the Huffington Post. Fortunately for you, I’m not the Huffington Post. That’s fortunate for me, too, because I’d hate to live in Huffington.
But I mention HuffPost because one of the stories Pat sent me, which was written by Lee Moran and published by HuffPost, was entitled ‘Cat Endures 8-Mile Ride Stuck In Car Bumper, Walks Away Like It’s NBD.’ For those of you ...

SAN SABA—The Jackets were again superb—and the girls did well, too, in a nearby story—in the Armadillo Track & Field Meet, March 3, at Mill Pond Park.
The boys’ medal collection probably out-weighed a bag-full of discs and puts and maybe a javelin or two, if such an instrument were present at Texas track gatherings.
“It’s nice to get wins,” said head coach Craig Slaughter, but, “our goal is to get more seconds, thirds, and fourths {for points},” in the events.
SAN SABA—Kaymon Lange made it two triumphant Thursdays in a row, March 3, with a first in the triple jump and a second in the long jump. Not too much to get upset about in the silver lining as her 16 foot, 7-and-a-half inch effort is now her personal record.
Her 33 foot, two-and-a-half in the triple is not a PR, but it did beat all comers in the Armadillo Meet.
“Kaymon gets after it,” said assistant coach, Zach Duncan.
