Texans are more likely to have a deer collision this year, according to State Farm claims data. The odds drivers will hit a deer in Texas are 1 out of 297; the national odds are 1 in 169. Texas ranked 39th in the nation in deer collision claims. State Farm estimates insurers will receive 52,000 deer collision claims in the Lone Star State in 2015. November is the month drivers are most likely to collide with a deer; followed by October and December.
After working together for months to create new preliminary flood maps, officials from the city of Llano and Llano County, as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) now want to hear from the public. Homeowners, renters and business owners in these three counties are encouraged to review the preliminary flood maps to understand where flood risks have been identified.

Farmers and ranchers in Llano County who were forced to sell livestock because of drought have been granted more time to replace livestock and defer tax on any gains from the forced sales, said Bill Tuckness, Llano County Farm Bureau president. The one-year extension of the replacement period applies to sales of draft animals, breeding livestock or dairy animals. “The deferment for purchasing replacement animals is normally four years,” Tuckness said.

On Thursday, October 8, the Llano County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56 year old Michelle Humphry, of Kingsland, charging her with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a second degree felony. The arrest was the result of a narcotics search warrant that the department executed at 311 Horseshoe Drive in Kingsland. New Horizon was originally established in the early 1980s by James and Nell Hoffmann as a jail-house missionary program. In doing so, they learned of the families of the incarcerated sometimes found it difficult to meet the immediate needs of their families. Thus the Hoffmann’s in the effort to provide aid for utilities, food, clothing, medical needs, and other necessary items, they established New Horizons.
