INGRAM—The champion got a win in kind of a “first,” while the freshman claimed silver in—no doubt—her first-ever competitive varsity race. Tom Moore High School was the scene, August 17, of the opening cross country meet of the season. Might as well get to know Lauren Lee. Hopefully she’ll be walking Llano High halls, and running outdoors, till 2023. “I wasn’t expecting second,” said Lee, “{more} like 10th.” “Ran well,” added Head Coach Steve Golemon.
On Saturday, July 27, 600 backpacks were given out at Packsaddle Elementary at Llano County’s Back to School Blast. Most students came from Llano ISD schools, with a few from neighboring schools. Volunteers worked the week leading up to the event to pack backpacks, organize the “shoe store”, set up the hair salon and much more. The first patrons began lining up at 6:00 a.m.
Elizabeth Lilly, an incoming Freshman at Faith Academy, has a heart to serve her community. What started with an idea, led to her creating a flyer and a poster, putting an ad in the local paper, and creating a Facebook event. Elizabeth was able to help the Back to School Blast for Llano ISD by collecting shoes of all sizes.
This summer Llano students have enjoyed three hands-on science camps led by LHS Chemistry Teacher, Bonnie-Claire Carrell. Each camp touched on different aspects of science. These camps were sponsored by HOPE Haus and were hosted by Journey Fellowship. In the first camp, named “Campers Assemble”, students used the engineering design process to become a real-life STEM superhero!
The Llano ISD Packsaddle Elementary, Llano Elementary and Llano Junior High announced a change to its policy for serving meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2019-2020 school year. Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals.
You wonder if Oklahoma fans believe the Big 12 is a given, selection to the Final Four, ditto, so let’s just move quickly through a 13-game schedule and get to the dessert table? Maybe that’s an exaggeration with hyperbole looking for a place to hide, but the Sooners have won four conference titles in a row and made it to the College Football Playoffs three times in four years—albeit losing all three CFP games, and they are 1-4 in bowl games the last half decade. Don’t feel too so ...
The NBA is considering reducing its schedule, which is now 82 games. It is also talking about some sort of mid-season, so-called-cup tournament. And, a change in the playoff qualifiers for the postseason. Let’s jump right in. I have long favored the 82 be replaced by 75. That should keep players from taking nights off several times a year.
It’s not bragging when you claim to be a contender when: 1) You are coming off a 7-5 season with a playoff win, and 2) When you’ve got a bunch of talented young men ready to wear a school uniform on Friday nights. “I think we have a chance to be a really good football team,” declared Head Coach Matt Green.
The Austin American Statesman and other news sources are reporting that Leonel Manzano is retiring from competitive racing. Manzano, one of the greatest athletes in UT school history, and the greatest in Marble Falls High history, competed in two Summer Olympics. He won a silver medal in the 1500-meter run in London in 2012.
