After slogging through a victory over Sonora the prior week, last week's game against Jim Ned was moved to Thursday night to avoid the threat of severe storms. High schools all over central and west Texas had done the same, and it turned out to be a wise decision.
The Jim Ned Indians entered the game with a 3-0 record, just like the Punchers.
Last week the Punchers traveled to Jim Ned to take on the Indians. They fought hard through out the entire game. The half time score was 0-0. The Indians where able to pull away in the second half winning the game 25-0.

There are many things that I love about moving into a new congregation. I get to meet new pastors, community leaders, parades, the culture, try new restaurants, and hear wonderful stories of how God is working in the lives of his servants.
It is interesting to me how many BBQ’s, and Fish Fry’s there are here.
Our Memories Make Us Who We Are!
When new people move to Mason, it can be a bit intimidating to realize just how interconnected our residents are. Putting aside the familial connections so many of us share, we also have something that ties us together across generations and differences - our memories.
I can talk to a group of Sunday school kids, or to hunters at camp, and our common recollections can bind us together.
Leadership
The city commissioners’ vote approving the state’s rollback tax rate was an important decision to provide the city with $20,000 additional annual revenue. It’s not much, but $20,000 adds up to 1/5 the cost of the new million-dollar landfill over 10 years. No one wants to raise taxes or see rates go up, but Mayor Hinkley, Commissioners Beam, and Enrique are correct in that a new city-owned landfill is critical for Mason’s future.

Carnival Rides and Oreos….
It is likely true of all old-timers recalling pre-school memories. At times, weren’t we all scared of our own shadows?
As a five-year-old, holding tightly onto my parents’ hands, I took on the terrors of the midway when a carnival came to town. It was frightening enough to simply jostle through the crowds, and fears heightened as that first ride loomed.
It was unnerving, sitting atop the carousel hobby horse, even though my steed’s only movement—upwa ...
Defeat the Glove
People often send me texts and emails and ask me questions. Like ‘Where do you come up with your stories?’ and ‘What’s the average airspeed of an unladen swallow?’ and ‘What’s the next adventure you have planned?’ and ‘Why don’t you grow up?’ Fun questions.
Generally, I try to answer these questions truthfully, or as truthfully as seems necessary at the time.
I’m looking forward to Saturday, Old Yeller Day! Last year we had a great turnout, and this year could be even better. When you’re out and about for all the other happenings going on, carve out some time to be at the Courthouse lawn and for the free matinee, Where the Red Fern Grows, sponsored by the library at the Odeon.

Old-Fashioned Fudge Sauce
Courtesy Liz Barnes (one of my twisted sisters)
My sister, Liz, lives and works in Kansas City (bless her heart!). She entertains her staff of teachers on a fairly regular basis, and recently used this sauce as an ice cream topping at one of their get-togethers. She shared the recipe with me, I want to share it with you, since it’s right down The Practical Baker’s alley: quick, easy and delicious!

If you had told me 10 years ago that I would open a wine shop that would only sell Texas wines, I would have said you were crazy. I couldn’t begin to believe that there were enough GOOD Texas wines to generate sales to keep a store open longer than a week.
