And that’s just the superficial: most of us have paid for multiple doctors’ world cruises or orthodontics for their entire families! Why the gloom and doom? Because sometimes when I look in the mirror I scare myself!

In my last story, I told about going to my first of many camp meetings at Lower Willow Creek. The whole family really enjoyed our brief vacation among our friends and extended family. We also made some new friends. We were anxious to go to another camp meeting to see them and bring one another up to date. During the winter, Mamma & Pappa started talking about going even though it involved a lot of preparation, especially for the women folks.

A Different Entry Into Winter What a difference a few weeks can make! One month ago, pastures in Mason County were bare. There was no grazing available for livestock or for wildlife. Surface water was not to be found. Springs had slowed to a trickle. Landowners were bracing for what was shaping up to be a very tough winter, full of difficult decisions. And then, it started to rain.

Jam Filled Thumbprint Cookies courtesy: loveandoliveoil.com This is the first of a large group of “thumbprint” cookies that I stumbled across on the ‘net. They sounded good, and appeared to have almost limitless possibilities for the filling. They don’t have any unique or hard-to-find ingredients in them, and have been loved by everyone who’s put a tooth to them.

The Muddy Spartan Poor intelligence caused Custer to lose the battle of the Little Big Horn. Poor intelligence caused Napoleon to lose the battle of Waterloo. Poor intelligence caused me to believe the Spartan Sprint obstacle course race in Pulaski, Tennessee would be 3.1 miles. At the starting line I found out the race was in fact 4.3 miles long, and contained 23 obstacles.
