I received a Christmas card form the Governor’s family followed by an invitation to attend the Swearing In Ceremonies of Gov. Gregg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick which was held January 15 on the portico of the North entrance of the Capitol of Texas. I called my daughter, Keeta, of Houston and she joined me for the ceremonial event which was of great benefit to me as we walked all over North Austin, as it seemed, along with about 15000 others. With the sunshine and warmer weather during the past week, the City has had some chances to begin dealing with the spring time chores that need attention every year. Last week on Thursday and Friday we called “all hands on deck” and pulled all of the employees that were not needed for specific tasks elsewhere to help patch and repair most of the many potholes that have developed during the wet and cold winter days.

Due to the October flood, the Friends of the Library had to cancel the Wine & Cheese appreciation event. Our intention was to reschedule for later this month but the Board decided it was so close to the Book & Bake Sale, it was best to just cancel it completely. We will have our 2019 event in October.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accepting comments on a proposed rule designed to keep U.S. waterways clean while also clearing up prior water rule confusion. “The 2015 Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule created unnecessary regulatory burdens for landowners,” Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said. “Under that rule, it was difficult to know if you needed a special federal permit to do normal things like put up a fence or plow a field.” The proposed ...

We won’t go into numbers, but how could my baby be that old? Class Meetings continue at the Art United Methodist Parsonage on Wednesday evenings.
Welcome to the reappraisal season! We have started our field work in the northern parts of the county as we have described in 2019-2020 reappraisal plan. Western Valuation field appraisers will be in the field preforming property inspections. We anticipated this work to begin last November, however due to the heavy rain fall our time frame adjusted for road conditions. Hanging On to the Courage of Our Convictions We human beings can be stubborn creatures. When we establish an opinion, we will steadfastly cling to it, championing it and challenging all those who might hold different opinions. When questioned about why we refuse to waver, refuse to listen to others, we will respond that we are hanging on to the courage of our convictions. But, that's not always true, is it? Just as often in this life, we dig in our heels, not because of the strength of ...

No Bake Chocolate Cream Pie courtesy: insidebrucrewlife Now, if you want to talk decadent, you need go no further than to discuss this creation. No less than 3 creamy layers of chocolate goodness. And, beside that, it's a perfect dessert for those warm summer days that we occasionally have around here, since there's no need to turn on the oven and heat up the house!
Many of you may not know, but the library keeps a jigsaw puzzle out at all times in the north end of the library just past the computer stations. Anyone can stop in and work on it, and patrons have completed many puzzles over the course of the past few years.
You’ve got mail One of my favorite comedians, ever, was Mitch Hedberg. And one of Mitch’s best jokes was the one about Pringles. He said he thought Pringles started out to make tennis balls, but the first day a truckload of potatoes showed up by mistake. Just ‘Plane’ Herb… For decades, four words have been used to magnify success achieved by remarkable individuals. The words? “Only in America could.”… Following this opening are tributes to support such a lofty claim. I’m not sure such a well-intentioned comment really is a true “fit” for Herb Kelleher, who introduced discount air travel to America a half-century ago.

Another day in Mason. Another day of life. One day at a time. And some days a particular piece of white paper. Not just any paper. Funeral notices. Posted outside shops and offices surrounding the square. And beyond. Like little flags flapping white in the wind. Those who pass by look closer. Whether local or tourist, we pause to read the very white simple piece of paper clipped outside Benjie’s or Market Square. And there it is. Just a few words in bold black type. ...
