Even Corpus Isn't That Far from Mason...
Last week, I spent Wednesday through Saturday in Corpus at the Rio Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Though Corpus is four hours drive away, I realized that it really isn't that far away when you're from Mason.

Brave men
Most Texas historical markers are located along the highways of the Lone Star State. You see them as you drive by, but few actually stop and read them. They’re random snippets of ancient history, relegated to lonely stretches of road in a land that has miles and miles of lonely stretches of road.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.”
Amen.
Joyce Kilmer wrote “Trees” in 1913.
