The Mason High School varsity football team will officially get off to its first live-action competition of 2021 against other schools on Friday, Aug. 13 as the Punchers travel to nearby Llano High School for a preseason scrimmage against the Jackets.
There will be position battles aplenty on display for Friday night as the Punchers will look to develop their young roster on both sides of the ball versus a very talented Llano team.
Mason High School girls varsity cross country have very high hopes for the upcoming 2021 season. Released by the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas, the Cowgirls were ranked No. 4 in Class 2A in the first preseason poll by the CCCAT.
This should be a very exciting season for the Cowgirls, who will have many returning runners at the varsity level in 2021 with incoming junior Kinsley Jordan, sophomore Kamryn Loeffler, junior Isabel Callejas, sophomore Lynn Lehmberg, senior Tori Perlic ...
Roy Lee Pfeil, of Mason, was called home by God on Thursday, August 5, at the age of 56. Roy was born in Fredericksburg on January 26, 1965 to Leroy Harry Pfeil and Maurine Elizabeth Edwards Pfeil. He attended school in Fredericksburg and lived there until 1997, when he became a full-time resident of Mason.
Evelyn “Jo" Davis of London, TX went to be with our Lord on Aug. 3, 2021. She was born on May 15th, 1939 in London, TX to J.V. Welch & Mary Thelma Proctor.
She was preceded by her husband, Henry Davis Sr.; her sisters, Virgie Robbins and Dean Wimberley; and her brother, Clifton Welch.
She is survived by her sisters, Opal Childress and Janet Dawson; her children and their families, Darla & Russell Thompson, Henry Davis Jr., Phyllis Davis and Vernon & Reba Davis.
I am a biologist thanks to childhood on a Texas dirt farm. Grandpa Gibson taught me to put worms on a hook, and what to do when the bobber splashed out of sight. Grandma fried the fish we caught. From him I picked up firearm safety and marksmanship, skills later honed as a Boy Scout and soldier.
Several years ago we installed a recycling “creek” in our backyard. At the low end we dug a hole big enough to hold a 10-15 gallon rubber “tub”. Up the slight incline we dug a shallow trench and lined it with plastic which was covered with rocks and gravel. At the upper end we placed a large rock over a wide pool.
Today, Wednesday the 11th, we will have Retro Video Games at the library from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00. Next week, Fletcher Clark will perform The Runaway Scrape for adults on August 19th at 6:00. We are also in the midst of planning Old Yeller Day on September 25th from 9:00 to 2:00.
I was highly skeptical about this recipe when I dug it out of an old church school cookbook. It instructed me to add salt and yeast in the same liquid mixture at the same time, and that’s a “no-no” since salt has a reputation of killing yeast. Secondly, there was no kneading of the dough at any point in the bread making process!

It is definitely August. It is hot. There are many grasshoppers everywhere. We need rain. It is back to school month and I am grateful that I am retired.
School starts at Mason ISD on August 18. The Art Methodist Church will have a blessing of the backpacks on August 15 during the morning worship.
The Men’s Choir is scheduled to sing during the morning worship on August 15.

Mid-August is here, and the heat and dry weather are intense. We may occasionally get some rain if the storms flow in our direction from the gulf, but you never know for certain if these storms will reach us. Storm paths are prone to change rapidly.
Although we are in this time of late summer, there is still much to do.
