Fall is finally here. We have had a few cold fronts, Texas style, that change the wind direction, offer a few sprinkles, and cool us down for a few days. The calendar is filling up with all the activities that come with holidays. I really love this time of year.
Class meetings continue at the Art United Methodist Church.
An organizational meeting to work out details for a 4-H Horse Club will be held Monday, December 4, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. at the Mason Rodeo Arena.
The club is open to children Kindergarten through High School who are interested in learning about and working with horses.
Details about a schedule, meeting times, and activities will be discussed at this first meeting. For more information contact the Mason County Extension Office at 325-347-6459.
Each winter from December through early March, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) stocks rainbow trout in more than 100 locations across Texas. This winter, Mason County will host one of these fishing opportunities at the James River Crossing on Highway 2389. This Mason County winter fishing opportunity will be called WinterFisch and will include two release dates of December 23rd, 2017 and January 27th, 2018.
Veterans Day this year will be celebrated with a Veterans Day Ceremony and Rifle Salute, sponsored by The American Legion Fort Mason Post #285 and VFW Post 8554 on Friday Nov. 10, 2017. The ceremony will take place at the Mason County Veterans Memorial on the Courthouse lawn, beginning at 10:30 AM and will include patriotic songs, recognition of currently serving military personnel and a 21-gun salute.

Members of The American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing memorial poppies on Friday, Nov. 10th, in observance of Veterans Day. The tradition of using the red poppy as the memorial flower for American war dead began in the years following World War I. Veterans returning to their homes here in America remembered the wild red poppies that grew on the devastated battlefields of France and at Flanders Field.

The Mason County Republican Women will hold their bimonthly luncheon on Wednesday November 15, 2017, at 11:30 am in the Stribling Room at the Mason Library.

There will be a special showing of the movie Last Man Club at the Odeon Theater on Sunday, November 12th at 2:00 p.m. in honor of Vetrans Day.
The movie brings together four old World War II veterans who find each other for one last mission together on a B-17 bomber, just like the one they flew in the war.
One of the executive producers, Cowden Ward, is a good friend of Mason residents Tommy and Brenda Koepke.
The movie is rated PG-13.
