The Mason County Republican Women’s Club will host an evening event at the Mason County Library on October 29, 2019, at 7 p.m. Our guest speaker will be David Heckert, a US Army veteran and a field leader with the Texas Border Volunteers. Operation Orphans, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization which is preparing for its 60th year of taking less fortunate kids deer hunting. Due to the recent anthrax outbreak, several ranches which normally host children have had to cancel. We have girls which would like to participate in the October 26th hunt, but may not be able to if we can’t find places for them. Groups come to Camp Gene Ashby the Friday evening before a scheduled hunt.
Fall weather has been so nice. I don’t feel the need to save money and not turn on the heat until we are frozen. We have had cooler weather and a little rain. Best of all, grandson John helped me move all my plants into the greenhouse. This is a chore that gets harder to do each year.
Western Swing Legend Jody Nix will headline the Heart of Texas Fall Ball at the Heart of Texas Events Center in Brady, Texas, on Saturday, October 19. Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on living life to the fullest, are eagerly anticipating one of our favorite rituals - our annual trek to Joan Lindley’s house for food, fun, and fellowship. Every year Joan graciously hosts us in October, and her beautiful house is always gorgeously ghouly, festively frightful, and specially scary.
