The Mason Community Foundation is pleased to announce the Spring Grant cycle is now open! The request must specifically state, among other things, the purpose for which the funds will be used, how much money is needed, and to whom the funds will be delivered. Organizations are limited to one grant per 12-month period.
“Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg called to order the January 23 meeting of the Mason Lions Club. Thirty members attended the weekly meeting along with three guests and the day’s speaker.
“Boss” Lion Jim asked our two Mason High seniors to introduce themselves. They were Grace Chapman and Sandra Duarte. Grace said she hasn’t decided which college she will attend, but she plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
The News reported that, at the January 8 City meeting, the Commission declined to act upon the appeal made by Chase and Emily Mixon. That same article stated that City Attorney David Young had addressed the Commissioners and stated that all three claims were without merit. That conclusion was disputed, on Facebook, and a correction/retraction was requested.

Llano County Democrats will have 35 candidates on their March Primary Election ballots. “We are so excited about having so many candidates that we are going to have an Old- Fashioned Political Rally,’” Llano County party chair Dana Rushing said. “The Rally will feature speeches from our local and statewide candidates, but we will also conduct a straw poll, and offer music, door prizes and hotdogs.” The local trio Turnabout (Lisa Miller, Don Crowder and Pat Gibbons), will entertain.

Farm policy and trade opportunities are just two of the issues farmers and ranchers will face in 2018, Mason County Farm Bureau President Shannon Worrell said.
“A strong farm bill is crucial to the success of farmers and ranchers,” Worrell said. “We also need to see reforms in immigration, trade and regulatory policy.”
Farmers and ranchers would benefit from immigration reform that considers their labor needs.
Twenty-five intrepid Lions Club members braved the single digit chill factor and joined “Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg on January 16 as he gaveled to order the weekly meeting of the Mason Lions Club. The meeting room at Nacho’s was toasty, the food was hot and the friendships warm.

Around the City office this is the time of year when everyone is wondering who is going to step forward and file to run for the municipal offices that are up for election in this spring cycle. Every year there are some City elected positions that are open, and this year there are two District Commissioners as well as the position of Mayor that will be on the ballot.
The City of Mason meeting on January 15 had a short agenda; but, it lasted for almost two hours due to one item on that agenda.
The meeting began with a public hearing about a citizen request, made by Chase and Emily Mixon, to overturn a decision by the City Code Enforcement Officer.
