   Nicholas Neil Leifeste, 35, of Medford, New Jersey, passed away on January 5, 2017. Nick was born in Kerrville, Texas to Diane and Randy Leifeste on March 3, 1981. He grew up in New Braunfels, Texas and attended New Braunfels ISD schools. Nick was a gifted musician, to say the least, and was a proud member of the New Braunfels High School Mighty Unicorn Band.
   Glenn George Capps, 52 years of age, died in his home on December 25, 2016, after a thirty-year battle with multiple sclerosis. George was brilliant, witty, charming, and brave and inspired everyone lucky enough to have known him. Country Legends TG Sheppard and Mary Lou Turner will headline the Llano Country Opry on Saturday, January 14. The Llano County Historical Museum, 310 Bessemer, Llano Texas is currently exhibiting “Lone Star and Eagle: German Immigration to Texas,” an exhibition by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. If this is the case, come to Patrice Searsy’s “Easy Sewing Fixes” on Tuesday, January 17th. Patrice will be demonstrating fixes requiring sewing and ways not requiring sewing.
   The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library and the Piatagorsky Foundation are proud to bring a live concert featuring two amazing, world-class artists to Mason. Tenor Rodrigo Garciarroyo and pianist Richard Dowling will perform at the First United Methodist Church, 210 Broad Street, Sunday, January 15th at 2:00 P.M.
   The JV Purple Team played Albany last Friday in Zephyer. It was the first game back from the break. The Punchers jumped out to a quick start and grabbed a 13 point lead at halftime. The Punchers played extremely well as a team. That lead continued late into the second half. With 1:30 left in the game The Punchers were up by 11.
   With the recent freezing temperatures, most vegetation is now dead and extremely flammable. All precautions should be taken with activities that could start a fire. Spotters and available water needs to be around anyone cutting/welding or other sources of sparks. Controlled burns or trash burning should only be done if weather conditions (high humidity in early morning and wind velocity less than 5 mph) permit.
   The regular meeting of the Mason Garden Club will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Stribling Room of the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Dr. James Lindley of Fredericksburg will be giving a program on“Bees.” This is a very timely presentation as the number of beesis declining and we can learn how to help one of nature’s best friends make a comeback. Visitors are welcome.
   The Mason County AgriLife Extension Service wishes to thank the community for their continued support of its 4H members and their projects. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service also wishes to thank the many volunteers who committed to work in the 4H Concession Stand, which is the annual 4H fundraiser, and those who stepped-up to volunteer their time and efforts at the Mason County Livestock Show.
