   The Might Mason Puncher Band will have its 6th annual fundraiser Saturday, January 28, 2017, broadcast live on KHLB 102.5 FM from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Band Booster Club would like to thank the citizens of Mason for your contributions over the years. Your generous support last year helped the MMPB with scholarships and trips for our senior band students, instrument repairs, uniforms for the flags and twirlers along with meals and t-shirts for the entire band, to name just a few.
Celebrating the Little Victories of Life... We all set goals. Some of them are the big goals - succeeding in business, living a long and healthy life, achieving notoriety. But, it's often the smaller goals that, once they are achieved, have the biggest impacts in our lives. I had the opportunity to talk to Eli Smith last weekend.
   Save the Date! The 6th Annual Mason County Youth Rally will be held on Saturday, February, 4th. The Youth Rally is an exciting event sponsored by the Mason County Ministerial Alliance. The purpose of this yearly event is to give an opportunity for the youth in our community to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. All students in Mason County in grades 6th-12th are welcome to attend.
   The Association will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2017. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. At the annual meeting, the agenda will include election of new officers and directors for the association. Members attending will also determine the amount set for dues and bounties for the following year.
   Roger Schulte, owner of Jek's Pit Stop in Fredericksburg, has announced the sale of the two Jek's stores, effective January 1, 2017, to Charles Reichenau, owner of the Short Stop Food Stores. Reichenau, owner of nine other convenience stores in the hill country, welcomes shoppers to stop in and visit their new locations.
   Since the first of the year, the Mason County Sheriff's Department has been extremely busy with multiple felony arrests, and a weekend investigation into the accidental death of three hunters at a camp south of town. Initial reports from the accident investigation revealed no foul play. The two men and one woman had been using a propane heater that had run low on gas, causing the pilot light to go out.
   The Mason County Republican Women will hold their bimonthly luncheon meeting on Wednesday September 18, 2017 in the Stribling Room of the Mason County Library. The guest speaker will be Mason County Judge, Jerry Beardon. He will be speaking on new regulations and laws and the State of Mason County.
   After falling behind in the first quarter 9-16 the Punchers had to play catch up for the rest of the game. The Bearkats jumped out to an early lead with some good shooting that would come and go as the game went on. Hawley lost their touch from the field and the Punchers' defense picked up along with their offense as the half would close out with Mason trailing 24-27. The third quarter would start just like the first quarter with Hawley shooting extremely well driving to the basket ...
   Operation Orphans, Inc. held its final hunt of the 2016 deer season, Saturday, January 7. 56 boys from 7 child residential and foster homes participated. Animals harvested during the hunt were 48 whitetail does, 2 bucks, 8 spikes, 14 hogs and 2 axis for a total of 74 animals.
   Roy Douglas Boring, age 82, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2017 after a three year struggle with esophageal cancer. He passed surrounded and cared for by his family at his home in Marble Falls, Texas. Born to Louis Oliver Boring and Anna Josephine (Shannon) Boring on January 31, 1934, in Rochelle, Texas, Roy grew up farming and ranching in the Central Texas area.
