Did you know that next week is National Game and Puzzle Week? I didn’t either, but we can celebrate it here at the library any week—we always have a puzzle out. I usually put in a few minutes before work once or twice a week on the library puzzle because I just can’t help myself—I love puzzles!
Batter Up
Because of ‘lead time,’ this is the first column I’ve actually written since the presidential election. Last week’s column was published after the election was over, but since I have to send the column to my editors on Sunday night, I wrote that one a couple of days before Voting Day.
The calendar says it’s Fall, but it’s only Summer Part 2, here in Texas. We’ve had a few nippy days. However, they are just teasing us. That’s why we don’t put up Winter and Summer clothing. One day it’s shorts and the next day it’s a windbreaker! However, if you’re in the mood for a piddling day, you can just stay in your PJ’s.
If I had to write an essay on something and it had to be two pages.
Crock Pot Chicken Stew
The closer it gets to Thanksgiving I start looking for stress-free and convenient dishes. This is a different twist on stew but will still warm you up on these chilly autumn evenings. I like to serve it with cornbread
4 to 5 cups chopped cooked chicken
1 can Rotel
1 can canned tomatoes (chopped

Remember the good old days? November 16 was a big day in Mason County. Hunting season started on November 16. And, the most important thing, it was a school holiday. Kids were so disappointed when it fell on a weekend.
I trust you have enjoyed the end of the political ads.
Tears of joy.
Tears of fear.
Prayer.
Concern.
Worry.
Hope.
Faith.
Optimism.
Despair.
All of the above.
Now that the election is over.
React.
Or respond.
Choose carefully.
Choose wisely.
The thing is knowing there’s a choice.
Always.
As the sages say:
“The world is as you see it.”

Divided we fall.
What the world needs now...
Not just for some.
For everyone.
And it’s here.
Evident in the sunny day.
The darkness of 3 a.m.
And all moments in between.
O beautiful for spaciou ...

As a part of their Blue Ribbon Service Day, the students, under the supervision of Ms Julie Burns, were a tremendous help doing assorted (and tedious!) tasks in record time and were most appreciated!
It is with such giving volunteer spirits that the Thrift Store has been able to thrive ...
TIME OUT SUCKS!!!
Hi! My name is Jersey (AKA Buddy Boy) and my foster mom says that I am one of the most social cats she has ever fostered! I don’t like to think of myself as high maintenance but I do like to get my share of attention.
"It's morning again in America...."
As I write this column, the polls have been open on the east coast for over two hours, and more than an hour here in the central United States. By this time tomorrow, the election of 2016 will be in the record books, and no matter the result, we will have a new president-elect.
50% of Mason County’s registered voters voted either early or by mail ballot.
At this point we have:
1311 Early Voters
172 Returned by mail Ballots
1483 Total Voters Voted
2962 Registered Voters
