Individuals interested in learning about the role colonoscopy screenings play in detecting and preventing colorectal cancer are invited to a free “Scope it Out” presentation and discussion at Nacho’s Café on Thurs., May 19. A complimentary dinner will be provided at 6 p.m. with a presentation to follow. General surgeon Jay Stauffer, MD, will lead the presentation.

Mason County 4-H Shooting Sports Club traveled to Brownwood on April 16 for the Brownwood Extravaganza. The club is sponsored by the Texas Agrilife Extension Service and many local sponsors who contribute to the club to purchase equipment and supplies for the students. Chances are you know a young person who could make good use of a scholarship! The Hill Country Cattle Women work diligently each year to raise funds to award to scholarship recipients. These are awarded to students who attend a Texas college or university, and are at the Junior or Senior level. He or she must have accumulated at least 60 credit hours, have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 or greater, and must reside in one of our 14 counties.
April was a busy month with it being wild flower season. It brought a total of 360 visitors to Mason. We had people come from all over the states and even a few from Australia & Switzerland. It was a great month! We recently welcomed Dos Rios RV Park and Laughlin Homes & Restoration as new members to the Mason County Chamber of Commerce.
The Fredericksburg Chorale under the direction of Mark Hierholzer will present Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B minor on Saturday, May 7 at 3 PM. The performance will take place at the Mansefeldt Sheep Barn, 1532 Cherry Spring Road. The performance will be accompanied by Hierholzer on the piano and Sheila Kraus on flute. Bach’s B minor Mass, completed in 1749, just a year before his death, is considered to be perhaps the greatest musical achievement of Western culture.
