This month, the University Interscholastic League announced that Jacki Maenius, the Theatre Teacher for both the Mason Junior High and High School, has won the prestigious 2019 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award.

Let me start out by admitting I haven’t seen that much of the museum since this already not-new year began. The better part of January was spent driving my husband to California for a poetry reading he did near San Luis Obispo, the central coast town where he was born and lived with his grandmother for a short while during his early childhood.

Mason Independent School District Seniors Hannah Fisher, Kenzie Zahradnik, and Annissa Fluhmann were introduced. It was Hannah’s birthday, so the Lions sang “Happy Birthday” to Hannah.

Some days it is Spring and some days it remains Winter! It is hard to know from day to day, but certainly the season is changing and the budding spring flowers are one sign that soon we will have warmer weather, colorful landscapes and more visitors in our part of Texas.
Ochoa, Wills are players of the year
BRYAN – Refugio quarterback Austin Ochoa and linebacker Zavien Wills swept player of the year honors on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A Football Team.
Ochoa threw for 3,004 yards with 30 touchdowns along with 552 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. The senior, who will play baseball at Texas-San Antonio, led Refugio to a 16-0 record and the Division I state title.
Throughout the country there has been a good deal of election talk with the party primaries underway and locally with the Primary election for County Sheriff. The Texas Primary election is March 3 with early voting already started, and I encourage everyone who wishes to have your candidate succeed to get out and cast an informed vote.

It’s time for the annual Mason County Youth Rally! Like in years past, the rally will be held at the Mason County Community Building on Saturday, February 8th. Registration begins at 5:30; grades 5-12 are welcomed to attend. The event is over at 11:00 for 5th through 8th grades, but high schoolers are invited to stay for S’mores and fellowship until midnight.
Mason County Youth Rally is an awesome community event where all the churches come together to serve our youth.
