STOP SIGNS I would just like to start out by saying how thankful I am for being contacted by some of our local citizens regarding various concerns around town. This is what we as commissioners need to hear about so that we can better serve you. The one issue in particular that was brought to my attention was the concern about the speed of traffic on Westmoreland Street.
SAN ANGELO, TX (01/17/2020)-- More than 150 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers, including Weston Bauer of Brady, have earned spots on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their academic performance during the 2019 fall semester. To be eligible for the honor roll, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA for the semester. Our Veterans organization is in dire need of new members to maintain and fulfill the needs of the U.S and Texas Charter By-laws for VFW Posts. Our fellow veterans of the community and nationwide, many who are receiving benefits, are doing so as a result of actions of Veterans Organizations acting on behalf of each of us.
Students from Mason High School had an especially successful performance at the UIL Congressional Debate State Meet last week in Austin. Megan Canfield, a senior, earned a silver medal for 2nd place, and freshman Sydney Hardin placed 6th overall. Lizzy White, a junior, also qualified as a state finalist. UIL Congress is an event that is comprised of two days of debate, with students following parliamentary procedure to debate on twenty proposed bills.
A few names came in during the whirl of activity at Christmas and weren't included in the annual Christmas Greeting. The additional names for the greeting are: Betty Estes John & Gaye Thomas Frank & Kay Bartlett In Memory of Doug Willmann Final total donated $4,496.54.
Boss Lion Michael Murphy gaveled the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. at Nacho’s Café on January 14. Tom Gibbons, a new Lion was welcomed by the club. Lion Charlie Reichenau had the program and elected to give us the program of interesting characters he had met during his lifetime.
At Monday night's City Commission meeting, Hap Hedges was chosen from a field of candidates to fill the unexpired term for District 2, left vacant by the resignation of Bonnie Beam to accept a job with the City. Prior to his selection and swearing in, the meeting focused on almost two hours of public comment regarding the proposed historical preservation ordinance put forth at the December meeting by the Mason County Historical Commission. In July of 2020 the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) will begin construction of a new bridge to replace the low water crossing bridge at White’s Crossing on Highway 1871. Current plans do not allow for continued public access as has historically been enjoyed by Mason County residents and our many visitors who also enjoy the Llano River.
Recycling has come a long way and we are proud of what it has become. The City of Mason is the go-to recycling place. The Recycling center has been in Mason for the last 18 years. I have been here in Mason for the last 10 years and we have spent many countless hours getting Grants to increase our range of recyclables and the machinery to process them.
The Patriot Warrior Foundation held a luncheon and fund raising event at the convention center in Mason, Tx., on January 10, 2020 , to honor veterans from all branches of the military. The Foundation honored ten veterans by presenting each of them with a handmade quilt with the name of each veteran hand sewn into the corner.
