CWO2 Merton D. Pepper, U.S. Army, retired, veteran of 23 ½ years, passed away on December 31, 2015, at the age of 81 1/2 after a lengthy illness. Merton was born on May 18, 1934, in Goshen, Indiana; the son of David A. Pepper and Opal V. Burson Pepper. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years Julia Ann Templin Pepper, his children, Sonia Haub of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Sabrina Figert and son-in-law Dario of San Angelo, Texas; sons Brent James and Steven of Mason, Texas.
Norman W. Neece of Mason passed away on Sunday, January 3, at the age of 71. Mr. Neece is survived by his wife, Martha Martinez Neece, of Mason; two sons, Brandon Neece of Mason; Corey Neece of Amarillo; a brother, Robert Neece of Amarillo; and, six grandchildren. Genevieve Grace Mueller, of Brady, passed away on Monday, January 4 at the age of 75. Grace is survived by her son, James Cavaness McPherson, of Kerrville, two grandchildren, Emily Anna McPherson and Roger Grant McPherson, along with numerous friends and all those who love being in the country. Visitation with the family will be Thursday afternoon, January 7, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
A celebration for the life of Jack Lee Kothmann was held Sunday, January 3, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. on the Cross Hill at Eric Kothmann's. Jack was born April 2, 1949, and went to be with Lord December 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by Jamie and June Kothmann and sister Joretta McAllister.
Bobby G. Caveness passed away on Monday January 4, 2016, at the Knopp Nursing and Rehab at the age of 87. Bobby was born to Ebb and Lona Millsap Caveness on June 1, 1928, in Mason County. Bobby worked throughout the Hill Country as a cowboy. He is survived by his sons Tommy Caveness and his wife Patti of Hunt TX, Bobby E.

Jay Boy Adams and Zenobia with Mister Sister return to the Odeon theater in Mason Saturday January 23 for an encore performance. Showtime is 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30. Texas legend Jay Boy Adams is a Top-Five Americana Chart artist who has toured with ZZ Top, the Allman Brothers Band, Joe Cocker and Stephen Stills.
The Llano Country Opry will be stage on Saturday, January 9, with two special performances at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano. Mason was fortunate in missing much of the bad weather that struck Texas and the rest of the country during the holidays; but, we did have our share of weather events. Christmas Eve was warm, humid, and very windy. The warmth continued to Christmas Day with a recorded high of 77 degrees.
