This is it. The last of 2015. And so it goes. Time. Going, going, gone. As of December 31st. At midnight. Stick a fork in it. It's done. Ring out the old. Ring in the new. Horns blow. Confetti rains down. Balloons float in the air. Bells ring. Corks pop. Champagne flows. Kisses and hugs. Laugh and smile. Usher out the old. Welcome the new. The past is past. Saying adios. A new year is born. Wishing one well. May it be happy. And healthy. And prosperous. Break out in song. A song of time. A time ...
Happy New Year. I hope 2016 brings you good health, happiness, and of course wealth. For your calendar: United Methodist Women will meet at Art on January 12. Officers will be elected and the New Year planned. Happy birthday to Wesley Head on January 1st and to Stephen Mutschink on January 4th.
Before celebratory parades line up, I want to confess to framing a misleading headline. When I mention "end of the lines," I limit the meaning to the final lines written in this column for calendar 2015. Wherewith, you may choose to respond with the same query the needle posed to the thread in the nudist colony: "Sew what?" Featured in the year's final column are three sets of totally unrelated memories, none of which is likely ever to be forgotten by the folks who were there.... ***** Best mem ...
The greeting of Merry Christmas, was had. However, it was usually followed by, "Are you ready for Christmas?" I must admit, I've said this, but it's really a stupid question. Is anyone really ever ready for Christmas? No, there is always something that we forgot to get or do. But, if you look at it in a way that is comforting, you can always say, "well we did okay without it, and maybe you can justify it by saying to yourselves, "Nobody died because of the oversight!"
If you, like many Americans, eat, you've probably gained a little weight during the holidays. I'm being nice, of course. You've probably gained a lot of weight. The average daily American typically packs on a good ten pounds each year, between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Eating enough sugary, starchy, holiday food to choke a buffalo is an American tradition here in America, and if there's anything Americans love more than tradition, it's eating. My goal for 2015 was to lose ten pounds, and I've ...
As 2015 draws to a close, I look back, and I am so grateful for the tremendous community support that the Library enjoys--thank you, one and all! Nancy and I are looking forward to 2016, and we wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! Remember, the Library will be closed Thursday and Friday.
The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, December 15th, for its annual Christmas Luncheon, with spouses in attendance. There were 36 members and 21 visitors in attendance. Lion Martin Leatherwood was responsible for the program and introduced Crockett Keller who spoke about current gun laws and pending changes related to concealed carry regulations.. Mr.
Jasmine Jefferson is the proud winner of a Kindle Fire given away by the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. The Library held the drawing and Open House on Dec. 18th. The library staff appreciates all the folks who donated for the Santa Paws tree; needy cats and dogs will enjoy the food, treats, toys, sweaters, and blankets.
U.S. Veteran Clifford Parker Sr., of Mason, passed away on Saturday, December 26, at the age of 79. Clifford was born on April 23, 1936 in Mason to A.N. "Gus" Parker and Ida Brawley Parker. He was raised in Mason and joined the Army in 1953 when he was 17. He made the Army his career and retired after 20 years of service.
ger/dec 30 ltr-rollie morgan Dear Mason, For me, hanging Christmas lights is both challenging and rewarding. Challenging because I live in a big, tall house with no electrical outlets outside. I have to pull out the tallest ladders I own and multiple splitters, power strips and extension cords. It's always fun to see how many different items I can plug in without blowing a fuse or circuit breaker. Rewarding because it's nice spending quality time with my wife telling me what to do and how it's ...
