December 17 was the date of the annual Mason Lions Club Christmas party. Boss Lion Michael Murphy called the meeting to order at noon followed by a prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, Texas Oath, and “My Country Tis of Thee”. The steak fingers meal was catered by Nachos Café. The party was held at the Eckert Center. IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is the last Lions club meeting of the year.
Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?... Even novices in US History know that discovery of our part of the world was made by Christopher Columbus in 1492. On a far more personal note, Beverly Hindman--an 82-year-old widow in Burleson, TX--has collected important “puzzle pieces” this year to greatly clarify her family history. Now, 527 years after Columbus landed, she’s made a discovery of her own.
I, along with my Quartermaster, Eli Castillo, visited the 8th grade Friday, Dec. 6, to make the presentations to the winners of the Patriots Pen essay contest and were greeted by the faculty, Mr. Ryan Holbrook, Principal, Ms. Shanda Schmidt, Assistant Principal and faculty, Ms. Holly Whittle and Mr. Chase Pilgrim. The VFW Post chose a winner and two places in the contest.

The voting is done by the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors based on regular-season performance. Our December 14th meeting was: A Jolly, Jolly, Jolly Christmas Party. Lots of wonderful food, Christmas games, laughter, exchange of decorative socks, visits with all members, and wishes for the New Year to come was shared by all. No old nor new business reports. The general membership brought lots of delicious side dishes and our social committee furnished the tamales, deserts and assisted Joan Whitaker in the preparations for our party at her beautifully decorated house.
ger/dec 18 operation orphans Results of Operation Orphans Youth Hunt By Lyla Crouch Operation Orphans, Inc. held its third hunt of the 2019 season, December 7th. 37 boys from 5 child residential homes harvested 37 animals. Homes participating were West Texas Boy’s Ranch, San Angelo; Sweeten Home, Brownwood; Methodist Children’s Home, Waco; Gulf Coast Trades Center, New Waverly; and Cherokee Home, Cherokee.
Merry Christmas! All gussied up and ready to celebrate the Christmas season! The American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 held their monthly meeting and Christmas party on Thursday, 12 December at Nacho’s Café. The celebration was opened with Legionnaires, Auxiliary members and guests reciting the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commander Tommy Koepke.
The City, like all of our residents, will be particularly busy during the next couple of weeks. With Christmas and New Year’s falling in the middle of the week this year, City offices and all services will be closed for December 24 and 25, next Tuesday and Wednesday, and the following Wednesday, January 1.
