Fredericksburg, Texas Every three years, Hill Country Memorial (HCM) conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to identify the critical health needs of the community. The CHNA uses systematic, comprehensive data collection and analysis to define priorities for health improvement, creates a collaborative community environment to engage stakeholders, and an open and transparent process to listen and truly understand the health needs of the community.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mason Post 8554, is pleased to announce that the sponsored essay contest and teacher national nomination has been completed. Mason County Troop 281 took part this past Saturday in a riparian conservation project along Comanche Creek and the Jamie Hemphill Nature Trail in Fort Mason Park.  Mason Troop 281 worked alongside their leaders and some visiting scouts from Buda Troop 218, as well as Texas Master Naturalists and other volunteers, to create three riparian restoration demonstration sites along the nature trail.  The demonstration sites feature various methods for preventing erosion, and for encouraging so ...
Mason High School’s UIL Congressional Debate Team competed at the Regional Congress Tournament in San Angelo several weeks ago, and three students advanced to State. Lizzy White, a junior who was a finalist at State last year, placed 1st at the Regional Meet. Megan Canfield, a senior who earned a bronze medal at State last year, came in 2nd, and Sydney Hardin, a freshman who was competing in her first contest, placed 3rd.

Acting Boss Lion Dale Henry called the meeting to order at 12:30 pm at Nacho’s Café on December 3. Program chair for this week was Dane Phillips. Dane introduced the girls’ basketball Coach Jeff Guice. Coach then introduced his assistant coaches and staff which included Tiffany Ake, Denis Cano, Salah Eckert, and Debra Norman. Coach Guice mentioned that Mason will remain in the same conference next year.
This past weekend was a beautiful time to be in Mason and spend some time out of doors. The temperature was just right, the skies were blue and people seemed to be having a great time everywhere I went. On Friday evening last week the City had our annual Christmas party and combined it this year with a retirement party for some of our long time employees who are moving on to the next step of not needing to show up for work every day and having some extra time for themselves.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for special training, “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse” on November 25, 2019 at 5:00 pm in the Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst and members Jim Bob Smith, Cole Farmer, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, Mary Donaldson and Kathryn Martin were in attendance. Melody Jeter with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas presented.
The 2019 season for the Mason Punchers ended on Friday night as they suffered a 26-0 loss to the powerful Holland Hornets, who will now go on to face Refugio in the next round of the playoffs. Holland set the tone of the game early, scoring twice in the first quarter and putting 13 points up on the board going into the second quarter. Healthcare experts estimate that the number of Texans with diabetes will quadruple over the next three decades due to the aging population and obesity epidemic. A person is diagnosed with diabetes when their body’s ability to respond to the hormone insulin is impaired and therefore results in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates causing an increase in the patient’s blood glucose level.
