With the general hunting season for white-tailed deer underway, landowners and hunters are reminded to use caution on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
“Many Texans have died in ATV-related accidents,” Will Frey, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said. “ATVing is a popular way to get around the farm, ranch or deer lease, but that convenience also comes with a certain risk.”
There are about 650 deaths and 100,000 injuries each year involving ATVs, according to the U.S.
The City Commission held a Special Meeting Nov. 7th to accept the resignation of Commissioner Bonnie Beam who will now be serving the City of Mason in a new capacity.
Bonnie has accepted a position as a city employee, and will be replacing retiring Vickie Montez in our front office. Bonnie has been a dedicated and outstanding member of our City Commission representing District 2 since May 2016.
Acting Boss Lion Mark Lehmberg gaveled the meeting to order at 12:30 pm at Nacho’s Café on November 5.
The Board of Director’s Meeting was held prior to the weekly meeting, and it was decided at the Board meeting that instead of having a hamburger cook dedicated to the Tennis Association Project that we would instead donate $1500.
The program chair for this week was Michael Murphy.
Members of Mason Study Club gathered on Wednesday, October 23rd, for their regular monthly meeting. We were treated to a wonderful Mexican Pile-On lunch served by several hostesses.
Cathie Tyler, local artist, was the guest speaker. She presented a program covering Women in Art from the baroque ages (c. 17th century) to current times.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on October 28, 2019 at the MISD Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Cole Farmer, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, Mary Donaldson and Kathryn Martin in attendance.
Operation Orphans, Inc. enjoyed the first hunt of its 60th season, October 25th and 26th. Six child residential homes brought 30 girls to Camp Gene Ashby eager to participate in the “Take a Child Hunting” program. Homes taking part were Boys and Girl’s Country, Hockley; Foster’s Home, Stephenville; Medina Home, Medina; Methodist Home, Waco; Presbyterian Home, Itasca, and Texas Baptist Home, Round Rock.
Boss Lion Michael Murphy gaveled the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. at Nacho’s Café on October 29. We had one visitor, the lovely and talented Monica Hinckley. Boss Lion Michael had a few announcements-Christmas Party December 17 and next week, November 6 will be an all-hands-on-deck effort for the Blue-ribbon day’s hamburger cook.

Now that the heat of Summer is gone and the nights are cooler, water temperatures have dropped below the comfort level for most swimmer s. This has also reduced the demand for chemical sanitizers but pools still require routine maintenance and the leaves are already beginning to fall. Pool sanitizers work by killing bacteria and algae.
Wind farm developers are still rushing to start wind farm projects before the federal Production Tax Credit phase down increasingly takes effect. The Hill Country has fortunately not been impacted, although nearby areas such as Mills, McCullough, and Concho counties are seeing a progression in industrial wind farm projects. Updates on these developments and others will be discussed at a brief, informational meeting hosted by Save Our Scenic Hill Country Environment (SOSHCE).
