DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material found in every living thing. DNA is the basis for determining if you will be human, animal, plant or other form of life. The DNA is the “book” that holds the codes to hair, eye, and skin color. It also takes characteristics from parents and programs them in to their offspring.
Texas Retired Teachers Association Spring Leadership Conference was held on Thursday, May 3, at First Baptist Church in Junction. State Representative, Andrew Murr, spoke to the group of about eighty retired teachers from District 15. He encouraged the members to communicate with their State Representative and Senator about the issues before the Texas Legislature, which will be voting on protecting TRS Health Care and pension, the Defined Benefit Plan.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as the National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which that date falls to be National Police Week. An Annual Memorial Service began in 1982 that is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police.
The Mason Lions Club met May 8th for their regular weekly meeting. There were 33 members and no visitors in attendance. Lion Michael Cope was responsible for the program and spoke about the Mason ISD Scholarship Foundation that has been established by a gift from Geneva Rogers Keller’s estate. Michael gave a brief history of the formation of this 501c3 entity to generate scholarships for Mason ISD graduates, beginning next spring.

Despite having had to fight back from the injuries he received from a wreck after his last visit to Mason, he kept his eye on getting to come back to help.. . As soon as he regained consciousness after his wreck, his laser-like focus on getting well kicked in to gear.
During the past few weeks the City has continued to move forward with both of our major projects. As you are probably aware, the City is working with Texas Water Development Board to fund a water treatment project, and we are in the process of completing the permitting of a new landfill, since the old landfill is rapidly filling up and will need to be closed in a year or so.
It is hard to believe that just 8 weeks ago 625 friends, family members, co-workers, and classmates, who call Mason home, signed up to walk 832 miles across our great state of Texas! Walk Across Texas is an initiative sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension that encourages participants to choose physical activity as part of a daily routine.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on April 23, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm with members Tommy Bierschwale, Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Treg Hudson and Kathryn Martin in attendance.
Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on enjoying life to the fullest, stuffed our chubby little bodies into Ann Smith’s Rav4 and “took to the hills,” visiting Kacey Butcher’s hilltop country home in Loyal Valley. In the interest of full disclosure, we didn’t really run amok, but we did watch some Guinea hens in the yard.
BROWNWOOD – May 4, 2018 – Members of Howard Payne University’s faculty and staff were recently honored at an annual personnel recognition luncheon held on the HPU campus.
