Junction, Texas (April 30, 2018) – Kimble Hospital is one of the 20 highest ranked critical access hospitals in the U.S., according to a National Rural Health Association (NRHA) announcement. This elite group of 20 hospitals was selected from a Top 100 list released in 2017. Bill Barnes, administrator, could not be more proud of the providers and staff at Kimble Hospital and Junction Medical Clinic.
On May 24, at 6:00 pm, award-winning author and land management specialist, Dr. Jim Stanley, will present “Your Hill Country Land; Its History, The Problems, The Solutions, and Why It Matters” at Fredericksburg High School. For the fifth consecutive year Hill Country Memorial has been recognized by Women’s Choice Award as an America’s Best Hospital for Obstetrics. For the 2018 award period, HCM was one of 452 hospitals that have met the highest standards for obstetrics in the nation. “We are honored to have consistently received this recognition for obstetric care,” said HCM CEO Jayne Pope.
The Mason Lions Club met April 24 for its weekly luncheon meeting. 32 members and two speakers were present. On April 24, Lion Armando Subia, District Governor, sent each Mason Lion an email congratulating the Mason Lions Club on winning the “Retention Award” for the third quarter in the large club category.
When traveling this week, I noticed the roadside flowers are mostly yellow. Usually, yellow flowers are thick in late May and June. We really need rain. Perhaps we should organize a community prayer meeting for rain. Sunday, May 6, is Communion Sunday at the Art United Methodist Church. The Art United Methodist Women will have their Spring Luncheon at the parsonage on May 8, at 11:30.
Many times in our lives we give or get thanks. We teach our children to say, “thank you” to others when something is done for them. Appreciative thanks can never be overrated. It is actually a motivator for further acts of this same kindness to others. Thanks can be a form of renewal.
Denison students who have been awarded major prestigious national and international academic awards and scholarships also were announced. These scholarships, including Fulbright, Gilman, Rhodes and Cambridge, provide opportunities for Denison students and graduates to work and study abroad. The local Walk Across Texas campaign is nearing its end and will celebrate its success by participating in the annual Mason County Cancer Benefit! On Saturday, April 28th, Walk Across Texas teams are encouraged to participate in the 5K walk/run. The trail will be lined with HERO bags, reminding us of those we love in our community who have battled cancer.
The Mason High School UIL Academics Team won the 2A Region IV Championship on Saturday, April 14th, in Corpus Christi. This was the Mason’s third year in a row to win the contest. In addition, 10 of Mason’s students advanced to compete at the UIL State Tournament later this spring. Starting the day, the Current Events Team of Zachary Norman, Zane Shoemaker, Pablo Lopez, and James Potts placed 1st overall in their contest.
69 boys and their chaperones and counselors came to Camp Gene Ashby, located in Mason county, Friday, April 13, to participate in the Operation Orphans, Inc. Fishing Camp. Despite the gusting winds and cold temperatures the boys enjoyed fishing Saturday at six area ranches. Boys had to raid the Operation Orphans clothing room to get sweaters and jackets.
