We had to run the wipers on our way to church Sunday. It was wonderful. It is not raining this afternoon but we can always hope for more. I am not asking for cold weather, but we do need to use up the wood on the porch so it doesn’t have to be hauled back to the wood pile.
In Circles Will We Go…
Columns often “just happen”--devoid of both rhyme and reason. Such is the case as this 16th year of weekly “whims” begins.
For several days, I’ve thought frequently of circles, some from 1944, when a beloved first-grade teacher meticulously drew circles on the chalk board. She called them “dishes,” explaining that unexpected company had shown up, departing well before clean-up.
Bloom where your planted
Countdown to spring is clicking away. The La Feliciana peach has given me the first flower yesterday. This peach has become very popular recently, and I went to the nursery to get another and they were sold out. This tree was developed at Louisiana State and is able to tolerate high humidity, late producing and heavy with fruit even after thinning.
Turn off the faucet
To determine whether an Aggie was prepared to graduate, he or she was sent into a room containing a bucket, a mop, and a running water faucet, and told to mop up the water. If the Aggie first turned off the faucet, he or she was deemed sufficiently educated.
Well, February will soon draw to a close, and I’ve enjoyed it immensely because of the musical performances that the library offered. They were three totally different genres with one thing in common—outstanding talent entertainment! Next week we’ll have fun with the Library Book Club. We’ve been reading Fahrenheit 451, and on Feb.
Baguettes, the P.B. Way
The Practical Baker really enjoys experimenting in the kitchen. From taking tried and true recipes and altering them in different ways, to sometimes striking out and attempting to build something from scratch, I get a lot of pleasure in seeing how many different ways I can make a baked good!
Watching the Skies with Fingers Crossed....
On Tuesday morning, as I'm writing this column, the National Weather Service rain gauge at my office has recorded 0.09" of rain since the beginning of 2018. We're almost half way through February, and we've had less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation thus far.

Monkey Bread
This is a “cheating” recipe, since it calls for cans of refrigerated biscuits instead of “scratch made” biscuits. If using the store-bought ones is not appealing to you, feel free to whup up a batch of your favorites and use them instead.
Ingredients:
½ cup pecans (chopped)
