Burgers and lies
There’s a burger place right next to the Bass Pro Shops store in Little Rock, Arkansas called David’s Burgers. It’s not a fancy place, really, unless your typical Saturday night dining experience begins with, “Drive up to the second window, please.” The food comes in paper trays and there’s a lot of noise and the beverage dispenser is out in the middle where you can fill up your drink as often as you want, even if you’re going to the bathroom and ...
Summertime is often the time of family reunions. If you’re looking for something new and scrumptious to take along, come browse our cookbook collection. You’ll find everything from the Weight Watcher New and Complete Cookbook, the hilarious Being Dead is no Excuse: The official Southern ladies guide to hosting the perfect funeral (you don’t have to wait until someone passes on to try the recipes), to Riata cookbooks that will never steer you wrong.
Stove Top Pizza - (in about 25 minutes!)
This is another one of those recipes that, when I first saw it, I said, “no way will this work.” I mean, after over 30 years of baking experience, a person gets to where they can just look at a recipe and predict the results.
And Now, Your Round Up Weather Forecast!
This is Mason's big weekend. Once a year, everyone fills up every available room, bunks with local relatives, or just drives in for the day. It's Round Up time again.
From Thursday through the early hours of Sunday, Mason is about to be overrun with trailers, boots, cowboy hats and country music.
We just returned from New York City where we saw three Broadway shows plus the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. We walked away smiling after each show, but, not any more satisfied than after a concert at the Odeon theater in Mason, Texas. We’ve got the lights, the curtains, the marquee, and the stage but they have the BIG ticket in the Big Apple.
Ticket prices for shows we saw were between $150 to $225 per person.

Looks like a big pizza pie...
It might be “amore.”
But for sure, it’s time to go to Lea Lou Co-Op.
Night or day.
It’s always time for pizza.

Just tell the friendly staff what you want.
They will build it to your liking.
One flat price.
No extra for toppings.
So pile it on.
Fresh.
And lots to choose from.
Quick.
Good.
And salads too.
A fun place to eat.
Plus a beer and wine bar.
Plenty of room to spread out.
Big round tables.
Perfect ...
I hope you have great plans for July 4th. I better get busy if I intend to have plans.
We have bid farewell to our pastor this week. First, we had a fellowship party at Stephen and Joyce Mutschink’s home on Thursday. Lots of good food and fellowship. Sunday, we had a musical morning.
Green Chile Cheddar Burger Foil Packs
With the 4th of July around the corner it gets me to thinking about grilling. With minimum effort and practically no clean up this foil pack makes for the ultimate week night meal or summer party main attraction. You can serve with your favorite chips or grilled vegetables.
Humor In Real Life...
In the company of three physicians and a veterinarian recently during a three-day span, I queried their personnel about day-to-day occurrences that make them smile.
In three cases, answers came quickly. The vet, however, thoughtfully detailed a foul-up at a clinic decades ago. Hearing the account makes me wonder if it is included in lectures at the mother school of veterinary medicine, Texas A&M University.
In the early seventies, I would listen to a talk show on the radio, as I drove into work in downtown Austin. It was the Sammy Allred and Bob Cole show. Sammy was so rude and obnoxious, that by the time I got to work, I was in a really bad mood.
