The City of Blanco is continuing to provide water for people while it works through the process of restoring water service to its residents who have been without because of the now-infamous winter storm. The process of filling the city’s water lines was set to begin on Tuesday morning. “This will be a slow, low pressure process of filling all the lines in the city that will take approximately 6 to 8 hours,” according to the news release.
Two candidates will vie to be Blanco mayor and five are seeking to be on the Blanco city council in the May 1 municipal election. The candidates for mayor are Rachel Lumpee and Phillip Wayne Thompson. The position has been vacant since Martha Herden resigned in April 2020. Martin Sauceda, Place 3 city councilman, has served in that role as mayor pro-tem since Herden’s resignation. Five are running for two seats on the city council.

The Rotary Club of Blanco County is happy to announce that its annual major fund raising event, the golf tournament,has now been rescheduled to Monday, June 7, 2021. The tournament has been renamed the “Joe Garcia Memorial Tournament” in honor of our club’s founder, Joe Garcia, and the many contributions he made to the Blanco community.
The sun shines on snow as extreme winter weather hit Blanco County and much of Texas. The freezing temperatures and ice caused hazardous conditions on the roadways and a loss of power for many residents.
A dose of extreme winter weather blanketed Blanco County and much of Texas early this week, causing havoc on roadways and with electricity. The construction of the new water plant for the City of Blanco is underway. Construction began Jan. 4, 2021 and the project is expected to be completed in just over a year, in the spring of 2022. However, this time frame is subject to delays due to the weather and COVID-19.
Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, is an annual celebration to recognize African American achievements and contributions to the United States. The month of February, which coincides with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass, was chosen to celebrate the many African Americans who have sewn their gifts into the fabric of this country.
The Blanco City Council meeting was called to order on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Old Blanco County Courthouse by Mayor Pro Tem Martin Sauceda. All council members, Deda Divine, Matt Lewis, Keith McClellan and Mike Smith, were present. Sauceda said that construction of the new water plant is underway and is expected to take 18 months.
