The Blanco High School UIL Academic Team won the Region IV AAA Championship for the third year in a row last Friday and Saturday at Texas State University.

The Blanco FFA Chapter began a busy three-week schedule this past week as they traveled to Stephenville to compete in the State FFA Career Development Events hosted by Tarleton State University. The Blanco FFA qualified teams in 4 of the 6 events, with 23 students representing Blanco.
In the Homesite Evaluation event, Blanco placed 2nd overall and will be advancing to the National FFA Contest in Oklahoma City on May 7th.

Volunteers and supporters of Wild Woman Weekend gathered at the Blanco Courthouse on April 30th to celebrate the results of their event. Connie Barron disclosed that the event made close to $58,000 this year, a new high for the Blanco Non-Profit Coalition: Gem of the Hills Senior Community Center, Friends of the Blanco State Park, Blanco Library, Inc., and The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society.
Former Blanco Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amos Ramirez, 51, reached a plea deal with 33rd District Judge J. Allan Garrett and the 424 District Attorney's office for stealing thousands of dollars while working for the chamber.

Just one week after finding a new high school principal, the Blanco Independent School District Board of Trustees hired a Jowie Walker [pronounced JOE' ee] to be the principal of the elementary school during special session held on Monday, April 20. She will succeed Linda Romano, who is retiring at the end of the current school year.
Walker is currently the assistant principal at Spring Meadows Elementary in the Judson Independent School District where she has served for the last six years.

Blanco's Dairy Queen is in the midst of a complete makeover that should be completed in approximately six to seven more weeks. Construction workers have gutted the existing building in preparation for a total rebuild that will result in an essentially new facility. Local employees are working at other area DQ's during the renovation process.
