With family, friends and coaches gathered Monday, Blanco senior Presley Young signed a commitment to play basketball for Angelo State University.
Young will play guard for the Belles, who compete in the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference. The teams in the West Division of the LSC in addition to Angelo State are Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Midwestern State and UT Permian Basin.
Young put together a stellar career at Blanco High School.

Halle Puckett performed her recital for Blanco Performing Arts just eight days shy of one year after the original scheduled date, and it was absolutely worth the wait.
The shutdown associated with COVID-19 postponed her concert from March 28, 2020 to March 20, 2021. This was Puckett’s first public performance in a year.
Listening to Puckett perform certainly supports the theory that some talents can be inherited as her parents are concert pianists.

The band received straight ones in concert and sight reading and was awarded sweepstakes.
Blanco County had the lowest unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas for January 2021, the Texas Workforce Commission reported last week.

Kiley Elrod won the Region 2 Division 3 powerlifting championship in her class at the regional meet at Dublin Saturday, March 6 with a total lift of 915 pounds. Elrod squatted 400 pounds, bench pressed 215 pounds and deadlifted 300 pounds. The silver medalist lifted 820 pounds. Elrod advances to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting State Championship Meet at Corpus Christi Friday, March 19.
Blanco businesses have been allowed to open at full capacity since Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order went into effect last week, but many business owners are adopting a wait-and-see approach.
“The business owners I’ve talked to are cautious, and will not be making major changes just yet,” said Libbey Aly, executive director of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce.
