Blanco boys basketball coach Juston Weldon hit a milestone Tuesday, Feb. 2 with a 71-51 victory against the Lago Vista Vikings. The win was his 100th at Blanco High School in only four years. “It has been a wonderful ride during my four years here in Blanco coaching basketball. One hundred wins is very special to me, however, I could not have done this without the kids here in Blanco,” he said.
Blanco County is continuing to see robust demand for the COVID-19 vaccine as at least one local pharmacy is in the process of becoming a provider. The county’s EMS service is the sole vaccine provider within Blanco County but that could change. “We know of at least one pharmacy--Blanco Pharmacy & Wellness--that’s in the process of becoming a vaccine provider,” said Ben Oakley, the county’s infectious disease control officer and EMS chief.
Harley Hensley, a member of the Blanco Panther band, has been selected to the 2021 Association of Texas Small School Bands All-State Band. The ATSSB includes Class 1A through Class 4A schools. Hensley was chosen for this prestigious honor in highly competitive auditions held across the state at region and area levels.
The Blanco County Commissioners Court regular meeting was called to order at 8:59 a.m. Tuesday by Judge Brett Bray. All four commissioners were present. Public comments were heard after the pledge of allegiance was recited. First, D’Anne Welch spoke briefly about the lack of following the CDC guidelines throughout the county during these times.

Wreath retirement went on as scheduled, Saturday, Jan. 30, at cemeteries in Blanco County where wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves in December for Wreaths Across America. Ethan Morash, great grandson of Helen and Alvin Knoll, pictured above, helped out with the event. He was joined by Scout Troop 497, along the Herdens, Wagners, Andersons, Felps, Rusts, Fortunes, Gosnell and Knolls.
It might seem like there’s another letter every day to Blanco Independent School District families and staff members: “Today we were notified that a member of our campus community has tested positive for COVID-19…” Some parents have been feeling a bit uncertain about whether the district will switch back to remote learning, especially after students recently were sent home with their devices, books and lessons.
Pam Meier’s dedication to teaching in the area of conservation earned her a hefty piece of hardware. Meier, a teacher at Blanco Middle School, was awarded the Outstanding Conservation Teacher for 2020 for Zone 2 soil and water conservation districts. She was presented the honor at a January meeting of the Blanco ISD board of trustees. The Pedernales Soil and Water Conservation District nominated Meier for the award.
Dr. Heidi Abraham, MD, FAEMS, began her medical career as an EMT with a volunteer fire department in Ohio in 2004 or 2005. She was recently appointed the local health authority for Blanco County. Abraham’s father encouraged her to pursue medical school. Eventually, she followed his advice and attended Wright State University, where she completed her Emergency Medicine residency as chief resident. Jerry Thompson, of the Blanco County Friends of the Night Sky, on Jan. 26 presents County Judge Brett Bray and the Blanco County Commissioners Court a Hill Country Alliance (HCA) certificate in appreciation for the county’s participation in the Hill Country Night Sky Month. Thompson thanked the court for its efforts to support of the night sky in Blanco County, particularly its efforts to support HCA’s Night Sky Friendly Neighborhood Program.
