The Blanco County Fair & Rodeo Association would like to announce its new parking and main gate locations for the 90th Annual Blanco County Fair & Rodeo. The main vehicle entrance will remain the same, enter off of Hwy. 281. It’s been a long time coming, but one of the historic billboard signs welcoming folks to Blanco County is being restored with a modern touch. The group of Blanco County residents who have teamed up to rescue the sign on Ranch Road 165 still need your help to fund the project that is set to cost $16,000. The Blanco County Commissioners approved rules governing game rooms in the county at Tuesday’s meeting. The 18-page document governing game rooms in Blanco County was passed unanimously. The document states that game rooms “tend to be associated with a wide variety of adverse secondary effects” and that while “initially lawful,” they tend to gravitate towards unlawful gambling over time.” The rules state that game rooms “should be separated from sensitive land uses” such a ...

The Blanco Historic Cemetery is but one jewel in the crown that is Historic Blanco. A stroll through the cemetery is a stroll through our history. Rebecca Howerton was instrumental in it being designated Historical by the State of Texas. Many of the founders, civic leaders, ancient “unmarked” graves, veterans and of course loved ones. The most historic graves are found in the Old Section.
Three track athletes from the Blanco Track Club have qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Humble this week. Rhyder Nelson qualified in two events, turbo javelin and high jump. Sidney Johnson and Caroline Seymour both qualified in the javelin. Cameron Nelson coaches the Blanco Track Club members. Practice for the club began in March.
Over the course of two weeks, the COVID-19 situation in Blanco County gradually has become more serious, according to a county health official this week. “Unfortunately, COVID-19 is once again on the rise in Blanco County,” said Blanco County EMS Chief Ben Oakley, the county’s infectious disease control officer, on Tuesday.
The Blanco Panther football team was picked to finish second in District 13-3A, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. The Blanco FFA program has recently completed improvements to its show barn located at the high school. As part of the project, all of the old pens in the barn were removed and the barn was given a thorough cleaning. The dirt floor was leveled and compacted, and then a brand new set of pens was installed.
The Blanco Lady Panther volleyball camp was held July 26-28. The camp was divided into two sessions with incoming third through sixth graders attending from 8-10 a.m. and incoming seventh through ninth graders attending from 10 a.m. to noon. Coach Jane Karnes was assisted by upperclassmen and coaches Charlie Stavlo, Michelle Davis and Alex Uberroth.
