The Keep Blanco Beautiful 17th Annual Trash-off and 10th Annual River Clean-up will be held Saturday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Bindseil Park. This city-wide clean-up follows the recent clean-up efforts made on Town Creek by Keep Blanco Beautiful, Lower Colorado River Authority, the City of Blanco, Pedernales Electric Cooperative volunteers, and residents.
There was standing room only at the April 4 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, as neighbors living within 200 feet of a planned development on Trainer Street came to air their concerns. If his plans are approved, developer Jim Cook will build 40 homes on a seven-acre tract, a portion of the former McCormick Ranch which would be zoned R-3, or high density.
LCRA Steps Forward took place Friday, April 1st and allowed 75 LCRA volunteers to collaborate with city and PEC volunteers and residents to spruce up Bindseil Park and clean Town Creek starting from the Blanco State Park gate in Bindseil Park to 281 then again from Elm to Mesquite Street.
The City of Blanco is sponsoring Arts in the Park, a series of events beginning in April 2016. The Spring series will include 4 evening concerts to be held in Bindseil Park beginning at 6 p.m. Not only will there be live entertainment “under the stars”, but local artists will also exhibit their art work throughout the Park.
Blanco baseball coach Bryan Wyatt achieved his 600th win during the Panthers game against Center Point March 1 cementing him as the winningest coach in division 3A history.
Wyatt was presented a commemorative plaque for his 600th win on March 26 at Panther field during alumni day where junior varsity, varsity, and alumni players faced off, most of whom have been coached by Wyatt.
“It was a complete surprise that I was getting the plaque,” Wyatt said.
At its December 8 meeting, members of the governing body of Blanco heard presentations from citizens in the Citizen Presentations portion of the meeting. Resident Curtis Knutson complained of a mosquito problem near his home on Highway 165 due to poor drainage along the highway. Mayor Peele said the city would look into the problem.
The Blanco County Commissioners met on December 8, 2015 for their regularly scheduled meeting. All Commissioners were present. The minutes, payroll and official reports were approved. The outstanding bills were brought before the Commissioners and Judge Bray questioned one of the bills submitted by the Sheriff's office for 49 pounds of turkeys, 6 pecan pies, 6 pumpkin pies and 3 or 4 spiral hams.
Monday at 6 pm was the deadline to file for candidacy for the 2016 primary elections. Fourteen individuals will be running for seven local offices, all on the Republican ticket. Three of the four offices will run unopposed; Chris Liesmann of Johnson City for Commissioner Precinct 3, Bobby Fenton of Johnson City for Constable Precinct 1, and Deborah Earley of Johnson City for Blanco County Attorney.
Blanco Taxidermist Jerry Ayer went to the San Antonio Lighthouse of the Blind September 19 with the thought in mind that he might be able to teach some of the children about dangerous animals. He, himself, came away with an education. “When someone suggested presenting to the Lighthouse I instantly thought to myself ‘wow they can touch these animals and for the first time maybe get a picture of what a dangerous animal may look like’,” Ayer said.
The Blanco Christmas Night Parade is coming on Dec. 12, 2015 at 6:30 PM. The parade will line up at Blanco High School at 5:30 pm. At 6:30 we will pull out and travel down 4th st. to beautiful downtown Blanco. We will circle the Historic Old Blanco County Courthouse and wind down by the Live Oak Nursing home to bring the spirit and lights of Christmas to wonderful folks at the Live Oak.
