Kenzie Johnson, a junior at Llano High School, was recognized at a ceremony at the Headliner’s Club in Austin on June 11 for earning the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award. Johnson’s project, Keeping Kids Clothed, was to create a clothes closet for school-aged children in need. Llano Chamber of Commerce board members John Roberie and Marylin Hale recently presented checks totaling $501 to Llano Meals on Wheels and non-perishable food items to the Llano Food Bank. Items were collected at the fifth annual Taste of Llano. The event was held the Friday before Memorial Day, and it is sponsored by the Llano Chamber of Commerce.

On Thursday night, the Llano County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics search warrant at 529 CR 316. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine. Dianne Luce Brewer, a 51-year old white female who lives at the residence, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, which is a first degree felony. Brewer was booked in the Llano County Jail.

Nominations are being sought for the Llano High School Hall of Fame. The nomination committee will meet July 21 and nominations are due before that date, said committee chairman Donna Davis. The first Llano High School Hall of Fame class was announced in 2002 and a hall of fame class has been announced yearly since then.

Dumping continues to hamper operations at Llano Recycling Opportunities. The non-profit agency, which helps employ adults with developmental disabilities while also dealing with recycling efforts, has to continually deal with the problem, said Connie Hashaw. A couch and mattress were dumped at LRO this week. When someone leaves something at the center that cannot be recycled, the LRO must pay for it to be put in the landfill.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America starting at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at Robinson Park in Llano. The event will start just before noon with a presentation of the colors by the Chariots of the Hills motorcycle club, followed by Mckenzie Jones singing the national anthem.
