Recently tumbling into town, The Wild Weed Artisan Shop has put down some roots in the space next to the courthouse annex on Ford Street in Llano. Thoroughly enamored by the Artisan Market in Brownwood, Mary Chamberlain and her husband, Ben, decided that another was needed elsewhere in the hill country and went on a shopping spree for the perfect shop/location, visiting at least 10 different towns before settling on Llano.
I know that many of you are wondering about the status of the street work and when it will be completed. Due to the flooding back in October, there were a few setbacks and there was more extensive damage to several of the streets and additional repair work was needed.
Llano is in Stage 1 of voluntary water restrictions based on the City of Llano’s Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan. There are lots of things coming up in September to start preparing for, the largest being the Ladies in Leather Motorcycle Rally and Parade on September 13-15. The group will once again be headquartered at John L Kuykendall Event Center and Arena. As discussed on Thursday night at the Marketing 101 event, this is a great way to get folks in your stores and restaurants.
The quaint Texas Hill Country town of Bertram is preparing itself for this year’s Labor Day event—their 42nd Annual Oatmeal Festival. The festival kicks off on Friday, August 30, in the nearby town of Oatmeal. At 5:03 p.m., arts and crafts stations will be set up and a BBQ dinner will be served for excited guests at the Oatmeal Community Center.
FREDERICKSBURG—Returning for the start of the 2019 school year, Hill Country Memorial’s (HCM) Sports Injury Clinics will provide free orthopedic and physical therapy evaluations to middle and high school students on Saturdays from Aug. 31 through Nov. 9, 2019. The Highland Lakes Texas Exes Chapter is hosting a concert/game watching event at the home of Darin and Cheryl McNelis on Saturday, September 14 from 5:00 p.m. until the game is over. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over During the 2019 Labor Day holiday, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Llano County will partner with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to get drunk drivers off the roads and help save lives. The high-visibility national enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, runs from Aug.
During America’s early history, women were denied some of the basic rights enjoyed by male citizens. Married women couldn’t own property and had no legal claim to any money they might earn. No female had the right to vote, as women were expected to focus on housework and motherhood, not politics.
