The Llano High School Yellow Jacket Marching Band’s 2019 competition show, “Flashback to the ‘60s”, promises to induce both memories and nostalgia. The presentation includes several classics from that era: “House of the Rising Sun”, “Wipe Out”, “Stairway to Heaven” and “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. Although the entire ensemble will work to get crowds into the somewhat seamy ambiance of New Orleans and Bourbon Street, the LYJB’s first drill showcases a dynamic duo.
Highland Lakes Democratic Women recently awarded four $1,000 scholarships to area women. Three were given to women continuing their educations or returning to school to advance their careers, and one was given to a 2019 high school graduate. Georgian Cordell, owner of 1890 Karcher Haus Bed and Breakfast, cut the ribbon with members of the Llano Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night. The new B & B is located at 1307 Wright Street and is open in the winter Friday – Sunday and in the summer months, Wednesday – Sunday.
Miss Nelson is Missing For the third year, Llano Community Theatre has done a summer children’s play that is probably one the most challenging of all the productions LCT does each year. While this year did have its share of ups and downs, when it was play time this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, no one would have ever known.
Blood collections from donors are not keeping pace with the transfusion needs of hospital patients. Our community is not alone. Nationwide other programs are facing similar shortages. There is a real risk that by Wednesday we will not be able to meet all the orders for transfusion. So, we have two days to avoid a crisis. We are calling on the community, urgently, to please help avoid this crisis by donating.
The Llano County Historical Museum is proud to present a special exhibit by Texas Humanities titled Citizens at Last: The Woman Suffrage Movement in Texas, which will be on display at the museum from August 21 – September 14, 2019. The exhibit commemorates the 100th anniversary when the 19th Amendment to the US constitution was passed by the US Congress in 1919.
At their luncheon and meeting on July 25, the Highland Lakes Democratic Women heard Horseshoe Bay resident Lyn Jenkins share her inspiring story of perseverance, hope and optimism.Jenkins is a family lawyer whose career includes stints as a social worker, counselor, chemistry teacher, and manager of a maximum-security male inmate prison unit. Jenkins has battled and defeated cancer three times.
