The “Wildflowers in Bloom” Quilt Show, sponsored by Texas Hills Quilters, ended on Saturday with a warm glow of success! Nearly 700 people attended the show this year. Winners of the Viewer’s Choice awards were announced at the close of the show and ribbons were awarded. In the Novice category, Kathy Kennedy won First Place for her quilt entitled “Dreamscape” which featured Ira Kennedy’s paintings that are available on fabric.
The GOOD news is the entire Llano Library staff will be attending the Texas Library Association Annual Conference in Austin this year. The NOT SO GOOD news is the Llano Library will have to be closed for two days (Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17). The BEST news is your Library and the community we serve will greatly benefit from all the staff learns at conference.   The theme for TLA2019 is “Connecting to Innovate, Inspire, and Impact”.
The Gimbles big Texas Swing Band will be performing at the concert following the Llano Fiddle contest at the historic LanTex Theater in downtown Llano on April 6, 2019. The Llano County Courthouse will be open for tours Saturday, April 6 from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00p.m. The tours and pictorial displays will be hosted by members of the Llano County Historical Commission. The current two-story courthouse was designed in a Romanesque Revival style by A.O. Watson and Jacob Laramour, also architects of Llano's 1891 Badu Building.
The Llano County Historical Museum has several exciting events planned for the coming months. Beginning in June, the Museum will host a Llano County Founders’ Day Celebration, scheduled for June 15. Some of the activities planned will include presentations on the early history of the communities of Llano, Tow, and Castell; family histories of some of the early settlers; photo displays from early Llano; children’s activities; and an evening meal. Grace Episcopal Church is proud to present, for the first time in the area, a Taizé Worship Service on April 9, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to experience this simplistic and meditative style of worship originating from the ecumenical Christian community in Taizé, France. Located in the Bourgogne region of France, the monastery was created by a a Reformed Protestant monk in 1940.
The Highland Lakes Chi Omega Alumnae chapter celebrated the 125th anniversary of their sorority’s founding and enjoyed an intimate Eleusinian Luncheon on March 30th at Badu 1891 in Llano, TX. Founded at the University of Arkansas on April 5, 1895, Chi Omega has grown to include over 180 collegiate chapters, 240 alumnae chapters and 360,000 initiated members, making it the largest women’s fraternal organization in the world.

Progress on the American Legion Post 370 in Llano is slowly being made as funds dribble in to go towards repairing the extensive flood damage done to the property. The money received goes immediately towards needed electrical work, reworking the air conditioning units, outer wall insulation, etc.  The reconstruction plans include building a new office dedicated to the County's Veteran Service Officer, Mike Sandoval.
Llano County Officials, including District Attorney, Sonny McAfee, Llano County Attorney Rebecca Lang, Llano County Sheriff Bill Blackburn, Llano PD Mike Scoggins, Sunrise Beach Police Chief Lori Brock, Horseshoe Bay PD Rocky Wardlow, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center. The agreement acknowledges the importance of the multidisciplinary approach as the core of the CAC model.
