GRANITE SHOALS—On April 10, 2019, at 9:13 a.m., a 911 call was received reporting a harassment and a shot fired into the air. Officers quickly responded to the report in the 2200 block of Washington Drive. On arrival, the first officer attempted to make contact with the suspect, later identified as Gregory Edward Beversdorf, at his travel trailer residence.
Last week the drilling crew wrapped up the remaining shafts in the river bed and is in the process of mobilizing drilling equipment onto the south abutment (bent 15).  Beams were set at span 8-10 and crews have begun setting bridge deck panels at these spans as well.  Columns will be poured at bent 12 and 13 this week.
Super Star David Frizzell After the thunderstorms left the area on Saturday morning, April 13, there was a roar of a different kind as the American Antique Car Club rolled into Llano with drivers coming from as far as Dallas. Their destination was twofold—one, to have a meal at Cooper’s Old Time Pit BBQ, and the other was to make a stop at the Lantex Theatre for the Llano Country Opry.
On Thursday, May 2, the Llano Tea Party meeting will host Pastor Rafael Cruz as speaker and guest at Schorlemmer Hall in Llano (St. James Lutheran Church). Rafael Cruz is a powerful example of the American Dream. Born in Cuba, Rafael lived and suffered under a cruel, oppressive dictator. He began fighting Batista’s regime as a teenager and was imprisoned and tortured, simply because he wanted to be free.

Teachers representing public and private schools from Burnet, Kingsland, Llano, and Marble Falls gathered together on Monday, April 8, to celebrate the 85th birthday of the Alpha Chi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. The Alpha Chi chapter was organized at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX on March 10, 1934 and has faithfully served local teachers from Burnet and Llano counties for over eight decades.
A volunteer instructor of the Small Engine/Shop class at Llano Christian Academy was inspired to build prayer boxes for the First Responders of the Llano area with his students at LCA. God inspired Mr. Ouverson to help the students build the prayer boxes and place them in local churches that the students had discussed. The boxes are for the church family to write notes of prayer, thanks, and encouragement for the First Responders of the area.
The countdown continues. Pun intended. When we last talked, I introduced you to two of Neville Triplett’s physics classes preparing to build a rocket, which will be launched May 2 in Stonewall. The construction phase is underway. “I do believe, with the amount of planning, it will launch successfully,”said Andrew Cantrill, who is head of one of the engine crews.
It seems like we can start a sentence each week with, “After a three month delay due to the October 16, 2018 flood, we are back on track.” This week is no different, but it is an exciting one to announce for sure. On Wednesday, April 17, at 11:30 a.m., the Llano Chamber of Commerce will join the City of Llano and TxDOT in officially opening the new sidewalk from town to the John L.
Ethan West, a 22-year-old barber from Mason, is off on an adventure of a lifetime. He began his kayak trip near Junction at Telegraph and 700 Springs and plans on ending up in Matagorda Bay in about three weeks. The trip is roughly 541 miles and to his knowledge, it has not been done before, especially by one person alone. I met up with West at Scott's Slab where he was taking a bit of a breather.
