Dear Editor, For all the years your (Julie Kelly’s) Dad has struggled over his identity crisis, just as many years were spent teaching our children the difference between a man and a woman. Kids are confused enough as it is. Is it not disrespectful to Llano citizens, for a man to be dressed up as a woman on public display?
Dear Editor, What I need to say is a very controversial subject in America and all over the world right now. On April 23, 2016, my mother, husband and I went to a business here in Llano. We have been many times and have been very good customers. We are a family full of respect and love for other people.
Dear Editor, This past week, Sammy was admitted to the Llano hospital by his doctor of many years, Dr. David Hoerster. We can’t say enough about the care he received while a patient at Llano Hospital. The nurses were professional, friendly and so helpful. When he was discharged, the nurse explained the discharge instructions thoroughly. If hospitalization is required again (and we have a choice of hospitals), we will pick Llano Hospital, hands down. Sammy and Janice Garrett Bertram, Texas
Dear Editor, The Llano Recycling Opportunities is proud to have provided the citizens of Llano County with a drop-off recycling center which was opened in September 1996. We recently had a person who decided to dispose several injection needles used for medication or drugs on the drop-off dock. This is not an item which the LRO accepts for recycling.
Respect is ingrained into our society, whether it be a whole community of respectful people to the lone actions of a few. It is, however, still present and necessary for the society to function. It shows where there is a lack of respect, especially in dysfunctional families. Respect, to me, is knowing your boundaries and just simply having good manners.
Dear Editor, On the weekend of April 23, someone entered the Llano Special Opportunity Center and removed a 46-inch flat screen LG TV. This was reported to the Llano Police Department on April 25, 2016. We would like to have the TV returned and are asking the citizens of Llano to be aware of this theft of property and that on the back of the TV a permanent marker was used to inscribe the letters, LCSOC, which was printed on the model number strip. This TV was used for education ...
All aboard! Line up, everyone. Two by two. Keep moving. That’s right. Keep the line moving. There’s room for all The Ark is now loading. Yep. Michael, row the boat ashore. Hallelujah. When it rains, it pours. And that certainly proved to be true. As it poured and poured these past couple days. Night and day. Day and night. Didn’t stop the hummingbird. But all the other birds took cover. Hummingbirds don’t have that luxury. Their lives are on the line. And no time to waste. Bless their t ...
What a beautiful rainy week. As I write this Sunday evening, we have emptied over 3 inches from the rain gauge. I hope the oak tree pollen is all washed away. John had another kidney stone episode this week. He had two more removed at Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio.
Lye Soap This week I am taking a different twist. I found my mom’s recipe for lye soap and I had to share. I have good memories about lye soap or the process of making it. When I was a young girl I spent a lot of time at our neighbor Aunt Alice Doyal’s house.
Assaulted by Words... A different kind of avalanche sure to qualify as “breaking news” may soon come crashing down. And lesser ones will follow. Crumbling fast are some universal, rock-solid beliefs the masses have believed to be unchanging truths. To illustrate, I cite findings I didn’t even know I was looking for during a recent visit to Globe Life Park, where the Texas Rangers play baseball. At the outset, I point to an adage dating back to 1862: “Sticks and stones m ...
