Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” are risking it all in September. Yes, in defiance of good sense and triple digit temperatures (as of this writing) we are stepping out boldly, as befits our mission statement, and planning to dine al fresco for our September gathering on Mary Carlman’s delightful deck. River of Life Church will host the Living Proof Simulcast event with Beth Moore, one of today’s top women’s ministry leaders, on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Along with Beth Moore, worship pastor and Dove Award recipient Travis Cottrell will lead worship via simulcast. Living Proof events bring women from all walks of life together for a time of biblical teaching, worship, and encouragement.
Ray Istre’s monoprint series on time and a selection of Danny Kamerath’s contemporary wood bowls will be on display at Arnold Art Gallery with an opening reception for the public on Thursday, September 6, 5 pm to 7 pm. Istre recently moved to the Mason area from Waco. In his Time Consciousness series, Istre explores mono printing techniques to create layered textures and colors while reflecting how the numbers on a clock define time.
For the 30th year in a row, the Mason Bank is sponsoring a fundraiser for our course! Thirty years of unwavering support that has, in many instances over the years, helped our course get through some tough financial times. Please plan on coming out and supporting the course AND telling the nice folks at the Mason Bank how much we appreciate them!! This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 8.
Hank and Patsy will perform two shows at the Llano Country Opry on Saturday, September 8, at 2:30 PM & 7:30 PM. This special event will feature the lives and music of country music’s first superstars starring Jake Penrod and Bridgette Huffhines. The show will be held at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano, Texas.
The Mason County Livestock Show & Expo, LLC is hosting a fundraiser raffle in conjunction with their Fort Mason Cookoff and Wild West Extravaganza, scheduled for October 12-13 at Fort Mason Park. Proceeds from the fundraiser raffle and the October event will go toward showbarn facility improvements that benefit the security and safety of exhibitors, their families and the public.
The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is excited to announce that Children’s Storytime is returning! Storytime will be every Monday at 10:30 a.m. beginning September 10th. Storytime is for children ages 2-6, and a parent or caregiver must accompany the child. Our Storytime reader, Carol Lampman, recently joined our library family.
Pete Van Dyck will be presenting “Drought Proof Texas” at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13th. Admission is free. Pete is a restoration ecologist and heavy equipment operator who specializes in rehydrating landscapes. The mission of this veteran-owned small business is to keep our springs and rivers flowing year round on a foundation of regenerating healthy topsoil.
The 68th Llano River Valley German Hymn Fest will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Castell, Texas beginning at 3:00 p.m. In 1951, Rev. W.R. Birkner and Hugo Schulze decided to celebrate the singing of hymns in German to the glory of God, and to express appreciation for the Christian faith of early German settlers, and to preserve the inspiration of God’s word as expressed through the German language.
