If you’ve been wanting to learn how to create and use spreadsheets, now’s the time to sign up for a class! Carol Tucker will be teaching a Beginning Excel class at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. The class runs four consecutive Tuesday evenings and will begin on September 11th at 6:00 P.M.
What started as a Christmas tradition of picking mistletoe has turned into an agribusiness for a young man. Jarrett Worrell, a 2nd grader from Mason, TX has just launched his online business of selling mistletoe for Christmas decorations and keeping traditions alive during the holiday season. Jarrett and his parents traditionally go pick mistletoe during the Christmas season.
The Senior Coalition of Fredericksburg will host the 5th Annual Fall Harvest Health Fair on Tues., Sept. 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church (1800 N. Llano St.). The Fall Harvest Senior Health Fair is open to the public for free, and senior citizens, caregivers and those with aging parents are invited to attend. Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 PM, Tuesday, September 4, in the HEB Activity Room at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Charter HCA member and club Astronomical League correspondent, Jack Petersen, will present a program on collimation – optical alignment – of the various types of telescopes reviewed in last month’s meeting.
Happy Labor Day. It is the official end of summer. When you retire, holidays are not so important. We have holidays every day. Husband John is scheduled to come home from the nursing home this week. We are both ready. I am weary of my almost daily trip to Kerrville. As I write this Sunday, I am positive that God is watching over me on each and every trip.

The United Way of Concho Valley has awarded the Mason Nutrition Program with a venture grant fund. In last week’s newspaper, the United Way article listed Mason County as one of fourteen counties that they provide services to. An application for funds was submitted and reviewed by United Way of the Concho Valley’s Board of Directors.
Second Chance Mason Animal Rescue invites you to a spaghetti lunch on Sunday, September 9 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Parish Hall, a fundraiser for the free Spay/Neuter Program for income eligible residents within Mason and Mason County. There is a great need for assistance with spaying and neutering services.
Samuel Shelton will be teaching and demonstrating the process of painting the female portrait in alla prima from start to finish. Each student can expect to leave with a completed painting and well versed in the steps to getting a likeness of the subject. The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 15, 9:30 a.m.
