Llano River Watershed Alliance, in conjunction with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), will host the RACA River Float on the South Llano River on June 30th from 9am to 1pm. TPWD’s River Access and Conservation Area (RACA) program aims to increase sustainable fishing and paddling access to rivers and streams across private lands.
The emergency alert sirens will be tested on Thursday, June 28 at noon. The test will only be performed if there are no clouds. Regular tests of the siren system is necessary to check for any problems and to be fully prepared should the siren be required for actual use.
Folks at the Odeon theater in Mason kicked off their 90th year anniversary celebration with a fantastic concert by Guy Forsyth and his band. Guest were already asking for a return engagement on leaving the theater. Now, they are gearing up for another fantastic show from a visitor from the Land Down Under. Kara Grainger brings her fiery slide guitar work, her sultry mesmerizing vocals, and her engaging songwriting talent to the Odeon theater in Mason Saturday July 7 at 7:00 PM.
June 23rd and 24th is the Gun Show Fund Raiser for the Loyal Valley VOLUNTEER Fire Department in Mason at the Mason Community Center. I stress “volunteer” for a reason, so let me give you some examples. It’s a Saturday morning and you have guests arriving for the weekend but your toilet just overflowed all over the bathroom.
July 9th - 12th (M - TH) July 16th - 19th July 23rd - 26th July 30th - Aug 2nd 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. All incoming 7th through 12th grade girls and boys are highly encouraged to attend. There is no cost for this camp.
The weatherman has predicted rain. My poor yard is crying for water. Hopefully, by the time you read this, we will have had a nice rain shower. Tomorrow, June 21, is the first day of summer. With all the hot weather we have had, I hope that we have had our share for this summer. Happy Birthday to John Palacio on June 24th and to Dylan Hamilton on June 25th.
ALERT..ALERT..ALERT.. the baby bats are being born right now! There are a few things that potential bat viewers need to be mindful of. #1.Check the bat hotline @325-347-5970 for current gate opening time..#2 To reduce stress to the bats, everyone needs to get up the hill and in their seats before the bats head out..#3 The bats have been coming out shortly after 7 P.M.
June 13 at college station at the 4H Roundup Ashley Hahn was 2nd High Individual in the meats judging contest & the Gillespie Co team won 2nd place & is going to nationals in Denver in January. Ashley is a senior at Fredericksburg high school, president of the Doss 4H Club & daughter of Marsha & Blaine Hahn of Doss.
Mason County Ag and Natural Resources agent, Micah Walker, has announced a date for steer and heifer validation for 4H and/or FFA members. Validation must be completed for any steer or heifer that will be entered in a local, area, state or national show. Validation will be held on Wednesday, June 20 from 8 am to 11 am at the Jordan Cattle Auction in Mason.
On Saturday, June the 16th, the Mason Puncher Club is having their annual Puncher Club Golf tournament. This tournament is an ADULTS ONLY event. It will be an 18 hole, 4 person scramble; and, a length of string for additional help. Come sign up early - tee off will be at 1:30 (signup no later than noon, Saturday).
